Florian Sempey
An exceptional performer, Florian Sempey is one of the most sought-after baritones on the international opera scene.
Notably, he has made a signature role of Figaro in The Barber of Seville, which he has performed at the Paris Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, among others.
He has also appeared at major venues such as the Paris Opera (in roles including Papageno, Malatesta, Valentin), the Royal Opera House (Marcello), the Bayerische Staatsoper (Dandini), and the Zurich Opera (Malatesta).
At the Opéra National de Bordeaux, the house that gave him his stage debut at age 21 as Papageno, he has sung roles such as Figaro, the Count, Enrico, Alphonse XI, Zurga, and Antênor.
In concert, he has performed with the Wiener Symphoniker (Lélio, ou le retour à la vie by Berlioz), the Berliner Philharmoniker (Apollo e Dafne by Handel), and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse (Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Fauré’s Requiem), among others.
His first two solo albums, Figaro? Si! and Ferrum Splendidum, recorded with the Orchestre National de Bordeaux and conducted respectively by Marc Minkowski and Victor Jacob, were released in 2022 and 2024.
Highlights of his 2025–2026 season include Valentin (Faust) at the Valencia Opera, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich; Ford (Falstaff) at the Marseille Opera; and Il viaggio a Reims at the Salzburg Festival.
Florian Sempey was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2022.
