Ari Koeppel

Dr. Ari Koeppel is a Postdoctoral UMBC/CRESST II Research Associate at NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center working to enhance our understanding of land surface processes via remote sensing on Mars and Earth. Dr. Koeppel holds a B.A. in Engineering Physics from Dartmouth College, a M.Sc. in Geology from the City College of New York, and a Ph.D. in Astronomy and Planetary Science from Northern Arizona University. Dr. Koeppel’s work on mission science has included roles with the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover, 2001 Mars Odyssey Thermal Emission Imaging System, and EscaPADE Visible and Infrared Observation System teams and he is currently working on the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover team to analyze surface-atmosphere exchange on Mars. He is also using Mars analog data from Earth and building models to study permafrost processes and the modern water cycle on Mars.
