Maël Dubreil

Maël grew up between the southwest of France, in Saint-Émilion, and the island of Bréhat in Brittany. Fascinated by marine biodiversity from an early age, he spent most of his time exploring the island’s underwater world, where he enjoyed fishing, freediving, and spearfishing. This lifelong passion naturally led him to pursue studies in marine biology.
He holds a master’s degree in marine sciences, specializing in Marine Biology and Ecology from the University of Bordeaux, as well as a second master’s degree in aquatic Bioresource Management from the University of Montpellier. His academic work focused on exploited marine organisms, including reef fish, sea urchins, and other species of ecological and fisheries importance.
In 2020, Maël joined the sailing association Les Glénans as Environmental Coordinator. There, he introduced trainees and crews to the exceptional natural heritage of the Glénan Archipelago while developing his experience as a naturalist and lecturer.
In 2024, he earned his Scientific Diver certification and joined Ponant as a Naturalist Guide. Through expeditions across Southeast Asia, he enthusiastically shares his passion for the marine environment, as well as the cultures and history of the regions visited. He invites guests to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the ecosystems, landscapes, and cultural heritage that make each destination unique.
