Kreuzfahrten nach Saleccia, Korsika
Among the well-kept treasures of the Agriates desert, the authentic and wild Saleccia is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of the Corsican coast. Away from the busy roads, this long ribbon of fine sand, bordering the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean for almost a kilometre, is the property of the Conservatoire du littoral. The wild beauty of this idyllic place does not let you guess its strategic location during the Second World War: in 1943, the submarine Casabianca delivered 13 tons of weapons for the Resistance. A few years later, in 1961, several scenes from the film The Longest Day, starring Robert Mitchum and John Wayne, were filmed in Saleccia, as the Americans considered the Normandy beaches too damaged.
