A researcher with degrees in oceanography and climate science, Nicolas worked at the Institute of Mathematics and Physics at Georgia Southern University (USA) on oceanic and climate dynamics, and then at the Institute of Marine Biology at the University of the South Pacific (Fiji) on coral symbioses. My work brings together climate science, marine ecosystems, and an understanding of territories.

Between 2011 and 2013, I held diplomatic positions in Beijing for the American Association in China, developing expertise in strategic and maritime issues in Asia.

An explorer and organizer of scientific expeditions in Venezuela, I have led missions combining research, ethnography, and adventure: working with the Warao in the Orinoco Delta (2015), the Ekwana of the upper Río Caura (2017), and the Pemon around the tepuis (2024), including jungle crossings and rappelling descents.

Holding a master’s degree in international law of the sea, recipient of the 2022 Historia Prize for a work on the Hundred Years’ War, and having completed a half circumnavigation of the globe by sailboat, I develop an approach that brings together climate science, oceanography, ecosystem understanding, history, and geopolitics.
