PONANT lädt Sie zu einer 10-tägigen Kreuzfahrt an Bord der Le Boréal ein, auf der Sie zwischen archäologischen Stätten und prächtigen Landschaften im Norden Schottlands, am Rande der Highlands in die traumhafte und geheimnisvolle Welt des Hebriden-Archipels eintauchen können.
Ab Glasgow, der schottischen Hauptstadt mit gemütlicher Atmosphäre und authentischem Charme, nimmt Ihr Schiff Kurs auf die Hebriden. Die westlich von Schottland gelegene Inselgruppe umfasst fast 150 Inseln und zeigt bei neuen Stopps ihre ganze Vielfalt. Als nächstes besuchen Sie Iona, eine Insel der Inneren Hebriden und Wiege des Christentums in Schottland, wo das berühmte Book of Kells geschrieben wurde.
Dann erreichen Sie das vulkanische Gebiet von Lunga in den Treshnish-Inseln. Die kleine Insel ist ein Schutzgebiet für Seevögel und beherbergt Kolonien von Papageitauchern und Lummen sowie anderen Arten.

Sie reisen weiter zu den Äußeren Hebriden und entdecken Calanais auf der Insel Lewis. Dieser neue Stopp führt Sie in die Zeit zwischen 2900 und 2600 v. Chr. zurück, in der die megalithische Stätte auf der Insel entstanden sein soll. Die kreisförmig, nach den Himmelsrichtungen ausgerichteten stehenden Steine hüten ihr Geheimnis und erwecken starke die Emotionen.
Die nächste Station ist Ullapool am Ufer des Loch Broom im Westen der Highlands. Dieser ehemalige Heringsfischerhafen strahlt zwischen weißen Cottages und bunten Fischerbooten einen malerischen Charme aus. Sie legen einen Zwischenstopp in Portree ein, der größten Stadt auf der Insel Skye, die an einer Meeresbucht liegt.

Landings can be operated in tenders, in zodiac or on the quayside. Programmes include moderate walks to more active hikes, all accompanied by your team of naturalist guides.
Ports of call, visited sites, and landings will depend on weather conditions, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time. The Captain may at any time cancel or stop any activity, or even modify the itinerary. The final itinerary will be confirmed by the Captain, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. His decision will be based on advice from experts and authorities.

Denn von diesem nun geweihten Fleckchen Erde aus begann der gegen 563 von Irland kommende heilige Columban mit der Evangelisierung von Schottland. Heute steht eine Abtei, echtes spirituelles Zentrum der Insel, an der Stelle des ehemaligen Klosters, das vom irischen Missionar gegründet wurde. Zahlreiche Könige Schottlands, darunter der legendäre Macbeth sollen im angrenzenden Friedhof begraben sein. Wenn die Sonne mitmacht, bietet die Ankunft auf der Insel Iona ein wunderschönes Schauspiel.

Vor der Insel Mull im Westen Schottlands bilden die Treshnish-Inseln einen kleinen Archipel aus sieben Vulkaninseln, der zu den Inneren Hebriden gehört. Basaltklippen und steinige Buchten prägen die Konturen der größten von ihnen, Lunga, während das Landesinnere von Heidelandschaft bedeckt ist. Lunga war bis zum 19. Jahrhundert bewohnt und bewahrt die Überreste der schwarzen Häuser, die vor Ort besichtigt werden können. Die Insel wurde zum besonderen Schutzgebiet erklärt und ist nun das Reich der pelagischen Vögel, darunter der Papageitaucher. Dort lebt auch eine große Kolonie von Robben. Das ganz im Norden der ansprechenden Insel Mull gelegene Tobermory ist sicherlich einer der schönsten Naturhäfen der Westküste Schottlands. Dieses 1788 gegründete ehemalige Fischerdorf wurde in einen Jachthafen umgewandelt, der heute sehr für seinen Rahmen und das von ihm ausgehende beschauliche Flair geschätzt wird. Bezaubernd sind auch die entlang der Hügelflanke stufenförmig angeordneten Häuser, deren leuchtende Farben den Hafen erstrahlen lassen. Auch wenn das eigentliche Schauspiel draußen stattfindet, nicht weniger interessant ist die Sammlung des Mull Museums, die der lokalen Geschichte sowie den Ausstellungen in der Kunstgalerie An Tobar gewidmet ist.

Callanish standing stones
Walk among the megaliths at one of Scotland’s most magnificent and best-preserved Neolithic monuments. The Calanais Standing Stones are a remarkable cross-shaped grouping of stones that were constructed 5,000 years ago. They predate England's famed Stonehenge monument by at least 2,000 years and were major sites for ceremonial activity for at least 2,000 years.
We don't know why the standing stones at Calanais were built, but the best assumption is that they were used as an astronomical observatory.
Enjoy a visit to the Stones with your knowledgeable guide, which is in walking distance from the tender pier.

Isle of Skye & Museum of Island Life
From the pier, board your local coach and start your scenic drive and head North onto the Trotternish Peninsula. The route passes the crofting township of Staffin which overlooks the sandy Staffin Bay. Journey around the northern tip of the island, hearing more of the myths and legends of Skye.
Then, take a glimpse of what life was like on Skye a century ago, through a visit to the Skye Museum of Island Life - consisting of a group of small, thatched cottages which depict rural life for crofters and farmers of the past; one cottage is replete with furniture of the period. A short walk from the museum is the grave of one of Scotland’s most famous heroines - Flora McDonald – who rescued Bonnie Prince Charlie and took him “over the sea to Skye”, as the song so famously tells, so he could escape the Hanovarian government.
On your way back to Portree, learn more about the fascinating history of the Isle of Skye and its geography and social history. Passing the curious rock outcrop known as the Old Man of Storr, countinue to Kilt Rock - a dramatic 200-foot high cliff marked in an almost tartan-like pattern by the rock strata and with a waterfall tumbling sheer to the pebbled shore below. Enjoy some time here to absorb the scenery and take photographs.
Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at Somerled Square. A 10 to 15 minute-walk is then required to join the tender.

Dunvegan Castle & tannery
This tour takes you across the wonderful landscape of Skye, to visit the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland - Dunvegan Castle - stronghold of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod. Explore this beautiful Highland estate, with its own gardens, woodland, burns and sea loch.
Upon arrival, discover the famous Dunvegan Castle. Stronghold of the Chiefs of the Clan MacLeod for nearly 800 years, it still remains their home, and therefore bares the title of the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. The original purpose of the Castle was to keep people out - it was only in 1933 that it was opened to the public for the first time. Inside the Castle itself, there are many treasures to discover, some with quirky tales to tell.
Continue your visit with the castle gardens which were originally laid out in the 18th century and offer paths through woodland glades, shimmering pools and burns fed by cascading waterfalls. Views are amongst the finest in Scotland, with Loch Dunegan and the Black Cuillins as a back-drop.
Then, rejoin your coach for the transfer to Skyeskyns Tanneryin Waternish. Here you will be transported back in time to witness how real sheepskins are made using time honoured methods of leather making - one of the oldest crafts known to man. After the visit, take the opportunity to browse in the shop before returning to the ship.

Day 1 - Edinburgh
Meet at Edinburgh Airport in the Arrival hall. Look for PONANT sign. You will be greeted by our local representative off the flight selected by PONANT or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).
You will be transferred to the Virgin Hotel Edinburgh 5*.
Day and dinner at leisure.
Day 2 - Edinburgh/Greenock
Your full day tour begins with a walking tour of the city. See the Georgian architecture of Princes Street in New Town and drive down parts of the famous medieval Royal Mile with the imposing Edinburgh Castle at one end and the 17th century Palace of Holyroodhouse at the other. The Palace was the home of Mary Queen of Scots from 1561 to 1568 and was occupied by Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745. The scene of many a great historical drama including notorious murders, and power-hungry personalities, the Palace is now the Queen's official residence in Scotland. You will head to one of the city's high vantage points for some spectacular views over the city before visiting the castle.
A majestic landmark which dominates the capital city's skyline just as it has dominated Scotland's long and colourful history, Edinburgh Castle is the best known & most visited of Scotland's historic buildings. Perched on an extinct volcano and offering stunning views, this instantly recognisable fortress is a powerful national symbol, and part of Edinburgh's World Heritage Sites.
Once inside, you will have the opportunity to see the castle's many different architectural styles, reflecting its importance throughout the history of Scotland, with the oldest section dating back to the 12th century. You will also have the opportunity to view the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the Stone of Destiny.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
After lunch, take a journey through the history and alchemy of whisky. Here you will enjoy a dram.
You will then be transferred to the port of Greenock, to embark on board your ship.

Walk among the megaliths at one of Scotland’s most magnificent and best-preserved Neolithic monuments. The Calanais Standing Stones are a remarkable cross-shaped grouping of stones that were constructed 5,000 years ago. They predate England's famed Stonehenge monument by at least 2,000 years and were major sites for ceremonial activity for at least 2,000 years.
We don't know why the standing stones at Calanais were built, but the best assumption is that they were used as an astronomical observatory.
Enjoy a visit to the Stones with your knowledgeable guide, which is in walking distance from the tender pier.

This excursion involves walking approximately 1h30 on uneven paved ground and grassy pathways. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing. Bring water et a wind-proof and water-proof jacket. Please note the Visitor Centre is currently closed for redevelopment until 2025 - the Standing Stones are still accessible but there will be no toilets onsite.

Isle of Skye & Museum of Island Life
From the pier, board your local coach and start your scenic drive and head North onto the Trotternish Peninsula. The route passes the crofting township of Staffin which overlooks the sandy Staffin Bay. Journey around the northern tip of the island, hearing more of the myths and legends of Skye.
Then, take a glimpse of what life was like on Skye a century ago, through a visit to the Skye Museum of Island Life - consisting of a group of small, thatched cottages which depict rural life for crofters and farmers of the past; one cottage is replete with furniture of the period. A short walk from the museum is the grave of one of Scotland’s most famous heroines - Flora McDonald – who rescued Bonnie Prince Charlie and took him “over the sea to Skye”, as the song so famously tells, so he could escape the Hanovarian government.
On your way back to Portree, learn more about the fascinating history of the Isle of Skye and its geography and social history. Passing the curious rock outcrop known as the Old Man of Storr, countinue to Kilt Rock - a dramatic 200-foot high cliff marked in an almost tartan-like pattern by the rock strata and with a waterfall tumbling sheer to the pebbled shore below. Enjoy some time here to absorb the scenery and take photographs.
Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at Somerled Square. A 10 to 15 minute-walk is then required to join the tender.

Dunvegan Castle & tannery
This tour takes you across the wonderful landscape of Skye, to visit the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland - Dunvegan Castle - stronghold of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod. Explore this beautiful Highland estate, with its own gardens, woodland, burns and sea loch.
Upon arrival, discover the famous Dunvegan Castle. Stronghold of the Chiefs of the Clan MacLeod for nearly 800 years, it still remains their home, and therefore bares the title of the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. The original purpose of the Castle was to keep people out - it was only in 1933 that it was opened to the public for the first time. Inside the Castle itself, there are many treasures to discover, some with quirky tales to tell.
Continue your visit with the castle gardens which were originally laid out in the 18th century and offer paths through woodland glades, shimmering pools and burns fed by cascading waterfalls. Views are amongst the finest in Scotland, with Loch Dunegan and the Black Cuillins as a back-drop.
Then, rejoin your coach for the transfer to Skyeskyns Tanneryin Waternish. Here you will be transported back in time to witness how real sheepskins are made using time honoured methods of leather making - one of the oldest crafts known to man. After the visit, take the opportunity to browse in the shop before returning to the ship.
