Tangier is a fascinating Moroccan city to visit. It has many assets that appeal to travelers: a sense of exotic mystery, interesting history, magnificent panoramas, unspoilt beaches and friendly locals.
Contrary to popular belief, the film Casablanca is based on the city of Tangier, not Casablanca. Tangier also had a reputation as a city of spies in the 19th and 20th centuries, due to its political neutrality and commercial freedom at the time. Today, the city is an interesting blend of North African, Spanish and French cultures.
Let's begin our journey by leaving the ship for Cap Spartel. This is one of the promontories that juts out into the waters of the two seas. Looking out towards the Atlantic and the setting sun, it stands where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. It is also covered in rockroses and cork oaks.
You will then continue to the entrance of the Kasbah, before embarking on a guided walking tour of one of Tangier's most historically and architecturally interesting districts.
The Kasbah district stretches across the highest point of the medina, and your guide will lead you up the hill, pointing out the particular buildings. Once at the top, you will find yourself in a district that hasn't changed since Roman times. The Kasbah, once the traditional residence of the sultan and his harem, is now one of Tangier's most fashionable residential areas.
The recently renovated Kasbah Museum is dedicated to the history of the district. Enjoy the traditional courtyard, the various exhibitions and the large mosaic works of art on display.
Next, you will visit the American Legation before moving on to the Grand Socco. The museum traces the history of relations between the United States and Morocco. As Morocco was one of the first countries to recognize its independence, the United States established its legation in Tangier in 1821. It is the only historic monument to have remained in American possession since the birth of the American nation. A letter from George Washington to Moulay Abdellah is on display here, among others.
On the way back down the hill, your guide will take you to one of Tangier's most colorful and lively neighborhoods, the Grand Socco (Souk). This great souk was full of life and remains a lively place, especially when the Rifian peasants come to market. It's the center of things and the link between the medina and the new town.
Before returning to the ship, enjoy a relaxing break with Moroccan mint tea and pastries in a traditional riad in the Medina.
· This tour involves just under a kilometer of walking, up and down, over sometimes rugged terrain. Sturdy, comfortable footwear is recommended. It is also advisable to wear several layers of clothing and to protect yourself from the sun.

Morocco has long prided itself on being a society tolerant of religious diversity, a legacy from the Middle Ages, when Moorish caliphs ruled North Africa and southern Spain. This tour of Tangier's medina focuses on the three monotheistic religions still practiced in the city.
Your walking tour of the medina begins as your guide leads you through some of Tangier's most interesting architecture to the highest point of the medina, the Kasbah, traditional residence of the sultan and his harem. This citadel dates back to the 17th century, when Sultan Moulay Ismail rebuilt the fortifications destroyed by the British, including a palace (now the Kasbah Museum), various government buildings and a mosque. The Kasbah mosque is the oldest (exterior tour), and perhaps the most beautiful, in the city, distinguished by its octagonal minaret.
A short stroll from the Kasbah leads to Tangier's Beni Idir district and the Moshe Nahon synagogue. Renovated in 1994, the synagogue now serves as a museum, preserving the prayer room's elaborate Andalusian décor, which includes typical floral and geometric motifs as well as calligraphy in Hebrew and Arabic.
The final visit is to Saint Andrew's, a non-denominational church built by Great Britain on land donated by the Sultan in 1883. Built in authentic Moorish style as a sign of respect for its host country, it has called on hundreds of Moroccan craftsmen from Fez to decorate its interior. In a true spirit of coexistence, an alcove in the nave features a carved text from the Koran, and the Our Father is carved in Arabic around the choir arch.
Before returning to the ship, enjoy a relaxing break with Moroccan mint tea and pastries.
· This tour includes a 1 km walk over uneven, sometimes rough terrain, both uphill and downhill. Sturdy, comfortable shoes are recommended. It is also advisable to wear several layers of clothing and to protect yourself from the sun. The direction of the tour is subject to change.

Discover traditional Moroccan handicrafts in the city of Tetouan, nicknamed “the white dove of the Mediterranean” because of the various peoples, cultures and religions that are found there.
Located around 50 kilometres (31 miles) from Tangier through the Rif Mountains, the city of Tetouan is a significant centre of traditional Moroccan handicrafts. First, you will visit Dar Sanaa, an old palace converted into a school to teach traditional Moroccan handicrafts. The aspects of Moroccan heritage transmitted here range from plaster sculpture and painting on wood to leather work and embroidery. The work exhibited at the school and the testimonies of the staff will enable you to learn about many elements of the country’s culture.
Leaving Dar Sanaa, you will visit the former medina of Tétouan on foot; a large part of this UNESCO World Heritage site was built during the 15th century by refugees fleeing the Spanish reconquest of Andalusia. Walk around its narrow streets and colourful souks, amongst sellers in traditional dress offering goat cheese, vegetables and spices. You will then go through the Jewish district. Finally, you will arrive at the Museum of Moroccan Handicrafts, where various handicraft pieces, for example, embroidery, wooden objects and woollen clothes, are exhibited. Your guided tour will finish in front of the Royal Palace of Tétouan, with its wide esplanade, Andalusian architecture and magnificently decorated portal.
Before returning to your coach, stop to enjoy a Moroccan tea and fresh Moroccan pastries in a riad bordering the medina.
· The level of difficulty of this excursion is low. The activity involves walking a little less on uneven ground and slopes. We recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and wet weather clothing.

One of the best ways to see the interior of the island and to get to know Madeira a little better is to walk along one of the footpaths alongside the unique and complex Madeiran irrigation system called levadas. These channels have been dug by hand into the mountainside in the 19th century, to carry water from high up in the mountains down to the fields and villages below.
Enjoy a leisurely walk through the emerald green paradise valley with captivating views over quaint isolated villages and Camacha. The flower lined levada trickles along underneath a canopy of Eucalyptus and Oak trees. Enjoy the abundant flora and patchwork landscape that makes this walk delightful.
You will firstly be taken to Vale Paraiso to begin the first part of the walk - a gentle stroll, mostly on level ground - to Camacha (2,296 ft, 700 m), where a stop will be made for refreshment before doing the second part of the walk to Rochão.
You will then return to the pier by bus.
· This tour involves approximately 3.7 mile (6 km) of walking on uneven terrain with some steps. Wear layered and warm clothing, as well as comfortable walking shoes. We recommend you protect yourself from the sun and rain, and to bring water. Please note that in interest of guests' safety, walks can be changed or cancelled due to weather conditions or status of paths.

Leaving the pier and driving through the main area of Funchal, your first stop will be the Old Town, one of Funchal’s main tourist hotpots, popular for its historical, architectural, gastronomical and artistic aspects.
The picturesque setting of narrow cobblestone streets is lined by aged buildings, some dating back to the 15th century. A new project called “Arte de Portas Abertas” (Art of open doors) is a public art programme aiming to transform Funchal’s old town into a permanent outdoor art gallery by displaying over 200 works of art by guest artists, painted on the doors of Rua de Santa Maria. This colourful project is an attempt to revitalise this part of town and make it more culturally significant for both locals and tourists.
You will continue by foot with a visit to the local market “Mercado dos Lavradores”, where an infinite variety of tropical fruits, vegetables, flowers, as well as regional products can be found. The lower half of the market is dedicated to fish: depending on the season, you may see fresh tuna or black scabbard fish. A visit to the market is always interesting and varied, and you will catch a glimpse of the day to day life of the Madeiran people. Here you will get the opportunity to taste some local fruits in season.
You will reboard your coach for a 15-minute drive to the Sacred Art museum, housed in the old Episcopal Court of Funchal. This building from the 17th century suffered changes throughout time, mainly in the 18th century. It was opened to the public as a museum in 1955. There are two distinct sections within the museum: Flemish and Portuguese Art (paintings, sculptures and jewellery). You will also visit the Tower to enjoy a panoramic view over the city and harbour before returning to your ship.
· This tour involves approximately 1 mile (1,5 km) of walking on cobblestone narrow streets and approximately 90 steps to negotiate at the museum and the tower. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes, to dress in layers and protect yourself from the sun. This tour is limited to 90 participants.

Whether in the incredible Monte Palace Tropical Garden, or standing before the breathtaking panoramas at the Eira do Serrado mirador, discover the soul of Madeira, a veritable ode to enchanted nature.
Stretching across 70,000 m² (753,000 square feet), the Monte Palace Tropical Garden houses an impressive collection of plants, trees and flowers from all over the world. Like an Eden for lovers of botany, this 18th-century park is also a perfect place to escape and to stroll among the many lakes, home to koi carp with fascinating patterns, and the countless ceramic tiles, some of which date back to the 16th century.
You will then head for Eira do Serrado on a winding road revealing commanding views over the valleys below. Your destination, the Pico do Serrado summit, rises to around 915 metres (3,000 feet) and offers stunning views of Madeira’s high peaks as well as the isolated village of Curral das Freiras, the former refuge of the nuns of the Santa Clara convent during pirate raids in the 16th century.
To finish, let yourself be tempted by a local speciality — a chestnut liqueur accompanied by a slice of cake — before your drive back to the port.
· This excursion involves a fair amount of walking in the gardens, on uneven or cobbled surfaces, and steep staircases. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and warm clothes. The road to the mirador is very winding. This excursion tour is not, therefore, recommended for persons suffering from motion sickness. Please note that the visibility at the different viewpoints depends on the weather conditions.

The island of Madeira, located in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean, is a paradise for fans of nature and sea life. Set off along its coastline from Funchal to observe the incredible dance of the cetaceans that populate these waters, in the company of a marine biologist.
You will first be taken by coach to the Marina of Funchal. Aboard a rigid-inflatable boat, you will have the opportunity to observe short-finned pilot whales, Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic spotted dolphins and common dolphins. Keep an eye out, perhaps you will also get a glimpse of Risso's dolphins, beaked whales or orcas; these are all rarer but sometimes present off the coast.

From the pier, board your coach and drive to Quinta de Santa Luzia, a 20-minute drive. Madeira wine is well-known for being a favourite wine "toasting" option for America’s Founding Fathers. To begin with, the island of Madeira served as a well-known port for various shipping routes going to and from the New World. England had specific legislation in place (“The British Navigation Act”), that ultimately prevented the exportation of wine (and other goods) to British colonies in the New World, unless it came on a British vessel and originated from a British port of call. However, the island of Madeira was exempt from this pesky law and Madeira wine became a “staple” wine on the vessels bound for the American colonies.
Once arriving, you will visit the vineyards of a traditional working Quinta, a unique property that still possesses the characteristics of a farm or estate as they once existed in Madeira. Bought by John Blandy in 1826, the first Blandy to visit Madeira, and the person to have established the now well-known Madeira wine business, this rural oasis is located near the centre of Funchal. This estate houses rich flora gardens and centenary old trees collected from all over the world, as well as a vineyard, whose produce is used for Blandy’s Madeira wine.
You will continue your tour to The Blandy's Wine Lodge. You will enjoy a private guided tour which covers the making of barrels at the Cooperage, ageing in the Canteiro, the transformation of grapes into Madeira wine, satinwood storage vats, and includes a visit to the private museum with unique items from Madeira wine history. The wine lodge was once a 17th-century monastery; it now provides an ageing store for thousands of litres of the highest quality Madeira wines, namely Blandy’s, Leacock’s, Cossart Gordon and Miles.
After your guided visit with one of the Madeira Wine guides, a lecture will be given. Finally, to complement this experience, you will enjoy tasting Blandy’s Madeira wines accompanied with some local snacks.
Then, you will re-board your coach and join your ship, a 15-minute drive.
· This tour involves approximately 2 hours of walking on uneven and cobblestone grounds, with some steps. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and to protect yourself from the sun. The tasting is included on your tour. This excursion is limited to 35 participants.

Leaving the pier, the tour takes you out towards the eastern borders of Funchal to the Botanical Gardens, one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens. Situated in the grounds of a former private house, the gardens are host to a profusion of plants and flowers, from all parts of the world, which thrive in the island’s temperate climate. There is a herbarium, as well as terraces and greenhouses with many rare and indigenous plants. The gardens provide an excellent view over Funchal.
After a visit to these gardens, the next stop will be at the cable car station for your ride to the village of Monte. Enjoy the panoramic views over the Valley of João Gomes River before reaching the viewpoint at Barbosas Square in Monte.
The village of Monte (1,677 ft., 550 m), is world known for its many fine properties and gardens, perched on a hill above Funchal; its 18th-century twin-towered-church is a landmark throughout the city. In the centre of the high altar of the Church stands the statue of Our Lady of Monte credited with being the source of many miracles, also inside you will find the tomb of Charles I, last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, who died in exile in Madeira in 1922. From here, you return back to port.
· This tour includes many steps and approximately one hour and a half of walking. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and warm clothes. Please note that visibility from all scenic outlooks are dependent on weather conditions.

Although it is one of the smallest islands in the Canaries, La Palma is exceptionally steep for its size. A ridge crosses the center of the island from north to south and the entire mountain range exceeds 2000 meters in altitude.
From the pier, you will continue to the highest point of La Palma, the "Roque de Los Muchachos", located on the northern side of the "Caldera de Taburiente" National Park, at an altitude of 2,426 meters. It was designated a national park in 1954 because of its immense scientific importance and its wild and exceptional landscapes.
No matter which direction you look, the enormous crater of the Caldera de Taburiente will always offer you incredible views. This park features one of the biggest craters in the world with a circumference of 28,000 metres, a diameter of 9,000 metres and a depth of 700 metres. It´s lined with a pine tree forest, lava deposits and features furrowed by cool streams.
Before reaching the top, you will see the peculiar scene known as the “Sea of Clouds”. Each visit to Roque de los Muchachos is different, as the clouds are never the same. A photo stop will be made at Roque de Los Muchachos viewpoint where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the impressive Caldera de Taburiente.
The next stop will be at Roque de los Muchachos Visitor Centre, which is divided into 4 rooms. The first one, the Welcome Room houses the reception, the auditorium, the store and a large interactive table, where you will discover what makes up the telescopes of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. Room 1 “The Canary Islands, a window to the Universe”: you will discover the reasons why the Canary Island were strategically chosen to house the most important telescopes in the world. Room 2 “Exploring the Universe”: here, you will dive into the depths of the cosmos, exploring all the corners of science and our Universe. Room 3 “Back to Earth”: in this room you will return to the municipality of Villa de Garafía, where the Visitor Centre is located. You will discover their traditions, their way of life, and their natural and cultural heritage.
After the visit you will have some free time to enjoy the amazing surroundings before heading to the port.
· Roque de los Muchachos is located at 2,423 metres above sea level, so this excursion is not recommended for people with respiratory distress and heart problems. We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and warm clothes. Please note that visibility is dependent on weather conditions. If the weather conditions are not good, the roads to Roque de Los Muchachos may be closed.

Dive into the luxuriant nature of northern La Palma for a unique experience in the heart of lush forests and admire the natural pools.
The Canary Island of La Palma invites admiration, contemplation and wonder. During this excursion, set off to discover the lush nature of the north of the island from several points on the island. From San Bartolo, the belvedere in the picturesque town of La Galga, you will contemplate the green landscapes that appear before you. In this heaven for nature lovers, you will cross mountain roads to reach the Los Tilos Forest site. This natural sanctuary, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is home to extraordinary biodiversity featuring rich flora: huge forests of bay trees, holly, arbutus, orange blossom, campanula.
As a volcanic island, La Palma is abundant in geological treasures that were formed by lava flows centuries ago. Among them is the Charco Azul natural pool and its crystal clear waters, where you will have time to enjoy a relaxing moment opposite the Atlantic Ocean. The clear waters and lush vegetation create a peaceful atmosphere, just perfect for unwinding.
On the way to a charming rum distillery, you will come across vast expanses of banana plantations, which contribute significantly to the local economy. During your visit of the rum distillery, you will learn more about this alcohol obtained from a sugar cane variety introduced to the island in the 15th century.
· This excursion includes around 1.5 km (almost 1 mile) of walking on uneven surfaces, steep and some stairs. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and sun protection.

Leaving Santa Cruz de La Palma, you will be driven west towards the municipality of Las Manchas, where a stunning plaza was hand-built by local artist Luis Morera. The square resembles the modern style of Catalan artist Antonio Gaudí.
You will then head for the south of the island, passing vineyards, lava streams and pine trees. You will reach Fuencaliente, which records in its varied geography the wildest repertoire of La Palma's historic volcanic eruptions and is also renowned as one of the island's highest-quality wine-growing regions.
The region's highest point is the San Antonio volcano, which can be admired from the crater rim and its visitor center.
The neighbouring volcano, called Teneguia, welcomes you from the tpo. Since its last eruption in October 1971, the volcano has grown considerably in size.
Your next stop is one of the island's famous wine cellars, where you can sample some of the locally produced wines.
· This tour involves around 1,5km of walking on uneven terrain, with occasional cobbles and pebbles. We recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing.

On September 19, 2021, a new volcanic crater formed in La Palma. The volcano, previously known as Cumbre Vieja, erupted, completely changing the landscape west of the city and creating the new volcano Tagojaite.
Tajogaite is the name given to an area of the island of La Palma belonging to the municipality of El Paso and located south of Los Romanciaderos, near the Montaña Rajada. The toponym appears frequently from the eighteenth century onwards in local documents related to land ownership, but its use dates back to the time when the Benahoarites inhabited the island.
Hiking on the newly named Tajogaite - cracked mountain - you will almost reach the crater, walking along black ash paths lined with Canary pines.
From there, impressive views of the lava flows and the Aridane Valley await you.
Once back on the bus, you will go to the Mirador de Tajuya to enjoy more amazing views of the volcano and lava flows, before returning to Santa Cruz.
· This tour involves approx. 6,5 km of walking, all downhill with 400?m negative elevation, with uneven ground throughout. This volcano hike is feasible for everyone, but due to the fresh volcanic ash in two short, steeper sections on the way back it is a bit more strenuous than on the way up. Under no circumstances may guests leave the official route or take volcanic material with them. This tour is limited to 42 participants, who, once at the volcano, will be divided in smaller groups of approx. 14 each. The tour is only available in English.

From the pier, you will board your coach and start your journey at National Park Timanfaya and the famous Fire Mountains of Lanzarote.
Upon arrival, you will enjoy a guided tour of the park. The park’s lack of wildlife creates a surprising air of calm and silence. It´s hard to imagine what a volcanic eruption would be like, but the land is still bubbling beneath the surface and the craters and the active volcanoes will amaze you. Islote de Hilario is one of the most original islets, or kipukas, in the Canary Islands, and it stands out from other islets because it is covered by the pyroclasts of the Timanfaya eruption of 1730-1736. However, the main characteristic of this geological attraction is the presence of thermal anomalies. This area registers the highest thermal anomalies in the Canary Islands. Then, you will attend geothermal demonstrations and will gain an appreciation for the power of the active volcanoes under your feet.
After admiring this astonishing natural beauty of the national park, you will appreciate the El Golfo viewpoint overlooking El Charco de los Clicos, a green lake formed by a volcanic crater and located in the middle of a black sand beach.
The journey back to the pier passes by the beautiful Vineyards of La Geria, where of course you will have the chance to taste typical Lanzarote wine. This wine producing area is a few miles inland; the wall of volcanic rock divides the apparently barren field but, within these walls, the wine flourish under a layer of Picón (porous lava granules which absorb the dew at night and provide constant moisture to the plants).
· This excursion involves walking on uneven ground and gravel, sometimes steep with steps. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and protect yourself from the sun.

César Manrique, the renowned Spanish artist, architect, and environmentalist, was definitely the most important artist to hail from the Canary Islands. He got popular as a painter, sculptor, architect, gardener, and outdoor designer. He was also a passionate defender of the environment. Thanks to his everlasting work, the coasts of Lanzarote stayed clear, hotel buildings were kept reduced, and the characteristics of villages and landscapes remain authentic.
Meet your guide, board your coach and drive to the César Manrique Foundation, or Fundación Cesar Manrique (FCM). It is a cultural institution and was established in 1982 by César Manrique. The foundation aims to preserve and promote the artistic and cultural legacy of the artist, as well as to foster the conservation and sustainable development of the island of Lanzarote. Manrique was deeply connected to Lanzarote and played a significant role in shaping the island's identity and protecting its natural beauty.
The Foundation is housed in Manrique's former residence. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece, blending harmoniously with the surrounding volcanic landscape. It integrates natural volcanic bubbles and caves into its design, showcasing Manrique's philosophy of merging art with nature. The rooms are filled with his paintings, sculptures, and personal objects, offering a glimpse into his creative process and inspirations.
One of Manrique's most significant contributions to Lanzarote was his emphasis on preserving the island's natural beauty and promoting sustainable development. He advocated for responsible tourism, highlighting the importance of maintaining a balance between economic growth and environmental conservation.
Then, you will re-board your coach and head to the Cactus Garden, which is a perfect example of how to combine architecture with the environment without destruction. Manrique created this brave monument maintaining the connection between art and nature, which is reflected in all his creations. The Cactus Garden, also known as Jardín de Cactus, is a tribute to the island's unique landscape.
The Cactus Garden was inaugurated in 1990 and is built within an old quarry, showcasing Manrique's ability to integrate art and nature. The garden features over 1,400 species of cacti from different parts of the world, creating a stunning display of shapes, sizes, and colors.
The garden is designed in a circular shape, with terraced levels that blend harmoniously with the surrounding volcanic environment. Manrique incorporated various elements into the garden's design, including stone walls, paths, and seating areas, all carefully crafted to complement the cacti.
At the centre of the garden stands a restored windmill, which adds to the unique ambiance and serves as a symbol of Lanzarote's agricultural past. The windmill has been converted into a small museum that provides information about the history and cultivation of cacti on the island.
The garden's terraced layout offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, allowing visitors to appreciate both the natural beauty of the plants and the volcanic landscapes that define Lanzarote.
Enjoy a refreshment at the café amidst the peaceful setting before heading back to the port and your ship.
· This tour includes 1 km of walking over uneven surfaces and there are steps to negotiate. Passengers should wear comfortable walking shoes.

From the pier, embark your coach for a one-hour scenic drive to the picturesque village of Haria, known as the “valley of a thousand palms”. Surrounded by lush green fields and colourful meadows, you can admire whitewashed houses, shady palms, and tropical flowers line its narrow streets.
You will then continue to Mirador del Rio, Lanzarote's most famous viewpoint. This former gun emplacement has been converted in 1973 by local artiste Cesar Manrique into a recreational and ecological location. From the balustraded café or the vantage point of the balcony, you will have some of the most breath-taking views in the entire archipelago. Standing 500 metres above sea level, you can see the entire northern coastline, the straits of El Rio and Las Salinas del Rio, the island's oldest salt plains which have been used since Roman times.
Next, you will reboard your coach and travel to Los Jameos del Agua. This massive open-air cavern is part of a long volcanic tunnel that was formed 3,000 years ago by molten lava. Due to gasses pression, the tunnel collapsed in some parts creating large openings. In 1968, Manrique had the idea to turn these openings into a tropical garden with a pool, a bar and a 600-seat auditorium.
Upon arrival, you will climb down a stone staircase into the first cave known as Jameo Chico. You will continue along a pathway crossing a lake filled with tiny albino crabs, a rare and delicate marine crustacean. Following the footpath, you will reach Jameo Grande, a huge open-air cave lined with tropical plants and a turquoise pool.
After visiting the auditorium, you will reboard your coach and get back to your ship.
