Ausflüge, Anlandungen und Zodiac-Ausflüge sind abhängig von Wetterverhältnissen, dem Wind sowie dem Wellengang. Die Wetterverhältnisse können jederzeit dazu führen, dass der Kapitän oder unsere Expeditionsleiter sich gezwungen sehen, Aktivitäten abzusagen oder zu unterbrechen oder die Route vollständig zu ändern. Die finale Route wird vom Kapitän insbesondere unter Berücksichtigung von Sicherheitsaspekten und der touristischen Qualität festgelegt und bekannt gegeben. Die Entscheidung des Kapitäns steht im Einklang mit jener der zuständigen Behörden.

Puntarenas, die Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz, trägt aufgrund ihres einzigartigen Charmes den Beinamen „Perle des Pazifik“. Sie liegt an der Pazifikküste von Costa Rica im Golf von Nicoya, umgeben von weiter, unberührter Natur. Im Landesinneren – unter den zahllosen Naturwundern des großzugigen tropischen Regenwaldes des Costa Ricas Nationalparks - thronen die Vulkane Poas und Arena stolz und majestätisch mit ihrer wolkenbehangenen Spitzen auf der Insel. In dieser üppigen Umgebung schützt Costa Rica eine der reichsten Artenvielfalten der Welt: Affen, Faultiere, tropikale Vögel, Iguanas, Krokodile, Wasserfälle, Canyons, und mehr als zehntausend tropische Pflanzenarten.

Im Süden der Halbinsel Nicoya liegt das kleine Naturreservat Curù, der älteste geschützte Nationalpark Costa Ricas. Es ist ein Vorbild für den Ökotourismus und ein Forschungszentrum für Wissenschaftler aus aller Welt. Das Reservat steht seit den 1930er-Jahren im Zentrum eines originellen Projekts für die Erhaltung der Natur und die nachhaltige Entwicklung. Nach einer kurzen Fahrt mit dem Zodiac können Sie auf den Pfaden durch den tropischen Regenwald, die zu herrlichen Stränden führen, die berühmte Tierwelt Costa Ricas entdecken: Affen, Leguane und mehr als 200 Vogelarten sind hier zuhause. Der Hellrote Ara (Ara macao) und der Klammeraffe wurden erst vor kurzem wieder ausgewildert.

Der Corcovado-Nationalpark liegt in Costa Rica auf der abgelegenen Osa-Halbinsel. Er umfasst 42.000 Hektar und ist damit der größte Nationalpark des Landes. Er beherbergt den größten Primärwald an der Pazifikküste des amerikanischen Kontinents und ist eines der wenigen Gebiete der Welt, das noch von tropischem Tieflandregenwald bedeckt ist.

Coiba Island once housed a prison with a sinister reputation that has since been abandoned. Today the island is a National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers many activities. Experience the emotion of the first explorers by heading deep into the virgin rainforest, untouched by human hand, and carve a path for yourself through the creepers, under the watchful gaze of the multitudes of birds. You may be lucky enough to see the Howler Monkey, only visible here. To conclude this unique adventure, take a dip in the turquoise waters of the unspoiled beaches on the island, among the sea turtles and the tropical fish swimming elegantly through the coral reefs.

Als abgelegenste und am wenigsten entwickelte Region Panamas ist die Provinz Darién ein wenig bekanntes Gebiet, das eine extrem reiche Fauna und Flora birgt. Der Nationalpark Darién, der zum UNESCO-Welterbe gehört, bietet eine außergewöhnliche Vielfalt an Landschaften: Felsküsten, Berge, Mangrovenwälder, Flüsse und kleine Buchten. Entlang der Pazifikküste, entdecken Sie Playa Muerto. Hier lebt das indigene Volk der Embera. Besuchen Sie das Dorf und entdecken Sie ihre Traditionen, Tänze und einzigartige Handwerkskunst.
10. Januar 2027 - Perleninseln

Der Archipel Las Perlas, der aus über 220 Inseln und Eilanden besteht, wurde nach den im Golf von Panama vorkommenden Perlmuscheln benannt, die während der Kolonialzeit als Verzierung und Handelswährung genutzt wurden. In diesem Archipel wurde die für ihre Vollkommenheit berühmte Perle „La Peregrina“ gefunden, die mehreren gekrönten Häupten und in jüngster Zeit Elizabeth Taylor gehört hat. Die Perlen sind heute aus dem blauen Wasser dieses Paradieses mit einer von Abenteuer und Piraterie geprägten Vergangenheit verschwunden. Nun können Sie hier an weißen Sandstränden schwimmen und dem anmutigen Ballett der bunten Fischschwärme zusehen.
10. Januar 2027 - Insel Pacheca

In dem Labyrinth der über 200 Inseln, die den Archipel der Perleninseln bilden, liegt Isla Pacheca im äußersten Norden. Dieser kleine Fleck unbewohnten Landes ist ein beliebter Ort für viele Vogelarten, die sich hier niedergelassen haben. Vielleicht begegnen Sie dem kuriosen Blaufußtölpel, wie er über einen der Strände der Insel läuft. Die Anlandung im Zodiac verspricht einen unvergesslichen Moment in der üppigen Natur zwischen weißem Sandstrand und grünem Regenwald.
11. Januar 2027 - Fahrt durch den Panamakanal

An Bord Ihres Schiffes machen Sie die einmalige Erfahrung einer Fahrt durch den mythischen Panamakanal, der die Fantasie zahlreicher Abenteurer und Spekulanten des vergangenen Jahrhunderts beflügelte. Der Bau wurde 1880 von Ferdinand de Lesseps begonnen und nach zahlreichen Rückschlägen und Skandalen 1914 von den Vereinigten Staaten fertiggestellt. Dieses technische Wunderwerk überquert die Landenge von Panama und verbindet den Atlantischen Ozean mit dem Pazifischen Ozean. Er hat drei Schleusenanlagen und erspart den Schiffen, die durch eine Art „Wasserfahrstuhl“ auf die Höhe des Gatunsees angehoben werden, die gefürchtete Umrundung des Kap Hoorn.

Der sich entlang der Nordostküste on Panama erstreckende Archipel San Blas liegt mit seinen Koralleninseln mitten im Karibischen Meer. Mehr als 300 Inseln verteilen sich so über etwa 300 Kilometer und bieten den Reisenden auf der Suche nach Ungewöhnlichem eine Menge Schätze. Geschützt hinter einem langen und schönen Korallenriff warten die San-Blas-Inseln mit zahlreichen Ankerplätzen auf, die Ihnen einer paradiesischer als der andere erscheinen. Die lang gestreckten weißen Sandstrände an glasklarem Wasser ermöglichen sie sich zu erholen und bewundern eine unglaubliche Meeresfauna, bevor der indischen Bevölkerung von Kunas zu begegnen. Sie ernähren sie noch ihnen vom Jagd und Fisherei und irhen Bambusdörfern setzen in Strandnähe.

Jahrhunderts an der Karibikküste Panamas zeugen, weshalb es von der UNESCO zum Welterbe erklärt wurde. Colón ist die zweitgrößte Stadt Panamas und liegt am Eingang des Panamakanals auf der Karibikseite. Heute ist die Stadt ein bedeutender Handelshafen, die Schaffung der Freihandelszone im Jahr 1953 hat erheblich zu ihrem Aufschwung beigetragen. Sie wurde 1850 von den Amerikanern gegründet, die am Bau der Eisenbahnlinie zwischen der Atlantikküste und der Pazifikküste der Landenge von Panama arbeiteten, und überholte die anderen älteren Häfen der Karibik nach der Öffnung des Kanals schnell.

Day 1 - San José
Meet at the airport in the Arrival hall. Look for PONANT sign. You will be greeted by our local English-speaking representative off the flight selected by PONANT or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).

Take advantage of two days to discover the richness of Panama City's historic centre, to visit the monumental canal and the famous locks opening the passage to gigantic ships from coast to coast. This programme will be an ideal conclusion to your cruise.
Day 1 – Colón/Panama City
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
You will depart the pier by coach for Gamboa (approximately a 1h drive).
You will first do a boat trip through the Panama Canal waterways to visit the islands that once upon time were mountains and were created when the area was flooded to form the Gatun Lake. You will also visit the orchiderarium, butterfly house, fresh water aquarium and snake house.
Lunch in a local restaurant.
You will continue your day with a sightseeing tour of Panama City. You will be taken first to Miraflores locks, the so-called “Eighth Wonder of the world”. Panama Canal is one of the most celebrated human achievements on the planet. Upon arrival at Miraflores Visitors Centre, you will visit the exhibition halls and learn about the Panama Canal’s history, its impact on international trade, how it works, its close relationship with nature and the Canal Expansion. From one of Miraflores observation terraces, you will be able to watch the lock gates open and close as vessels begin or end their transit, and you may observe transiting vessels from a distance of only a few meters while you learn about the various operations of the Panama Canal (cannot be guaranteed depending on Panama Canal timetable).
You will then discover the turbulent past of Panama City, in Casco Antiguo (or Casco Viejo) which is the historic part and the cultural gem of this vibrant metropolis. After the destruction of the first Panama City by pirate Henry Morgan, Casco Antiguo became the second Panama City. It was established around 1673 by French colonialists, the Catholic Church and other settlers. This is where much of the impressive colonial and Baroque architecture remains today. The modern, cosmopolitan areas of Panama City add a third layer to this historically rich city. You will get the chance to explore on your own the neighbourhood of Casco Antiguo with its colonial style government buildings, old churches and grand plazas. Casco Antiguo has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.

You will continue with the visit of the Mola Museum that opened in 2019. It was created to give relevance to the ancient culture of the Guna people represented in the mola. The mola is an indigenous textile art sewn into panels with complex designs, beautiful colours and multiple layers using a reverse appliqué technique that identifies the Guna community in Panama, you will enjoy beautiful display of many pieces at this small one floor quaint museum.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, take part to a private Mola workshop with a Guna woman and artisan who through her art safeguards the traditions of her people and pays tribute to their culture, inspired mainly by the biodiversity of Panama. The workshop has a duration of 2 hours, starting with the history and meaning of the Molas in Panama, and continuing with the project that consist in the creation of a handkerchief.

Day 3 - Panama City

Start your day at the Biomuseo, also called the Gehry’s Museum in honour of its world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. The building is designed to recall the creation of the isthmus of Panama which linked two continents and changed the planet’s biodiversity forever. The event that would change natural history for both continents occurred around three million years ago. Species from both continents mingled as northern animals went south and southern animals went north. The Biomuseo’s 4,000 square metres describe the country’s rich biodiversity.

Continue with the Agua Clara Locks is the largest project at the Canal since its original construction that created a new lane of traffic along the Canal through the construction of a new set of locks, doubling the waterway’s capacity, be a witness of this major undertaking by visiting the New Observation Centre of the Canal Expansion.
The new Observation Centre of the Canal Expansion, located in Colon Panama, is a park style concept based on open platforms and roofed terraces, built in an area of four hectares, 400 visitors, simultaneously, will be able to enjoy in this new centre, the construction of the new locks of the Panama Canal in the Atlantic, at the same time, from its privileged location, visitors see the majestic Gatun Lake, where ships continue their transit through the waterway.
