Country Club Casual, or elegant resort wear, is appropriate dress for all evenings aboard The Paul Gauguin. Country Club Casual consists of a dress, or skirt or slacks with a blouse or sweater for ladies, and slacks and collared shirts for gentleman. No ties are required at any time, although gentlemen may opt to wear a jacket to the Captain’s Welcome Reception. Please note that casual wear such as shorts, t-shirts, casual jeans (frayed and/or with holes), baseball caps, flip-flops, and Crocs are not considered appropriate after 6:00 pm in all restaurants and lounges. Begleitung der Tauchgänge
Ihre Tauchgänge werden von unseren PONANT Tauchguides begleitet. Diese werden sich um Ihre Sicherheit und einen reibungslosen Ablauf kümmern. An einigen Tauchplätzen, wie in Naturschutzgebieten oder wenn die örtlichen Vorschriften dies vorschreiben, wird zusätzlich ein lokaler Führer das Tauchen begleiten.
Erforderliches Tauchlevel während dieser Kreuzfahrt
Das erforderliche Niveau für Gäste, die während dieser Kreuzfahrt tauchen möchten, ist PADI Open Water Diver, CMAS 1 Stern oder ein gleichwertiges Zertifikat. Die Zertifizierung, das Tauchlogbuch und ein aktuelles ärztliches Attest (weniger als 12 Monate alt) müssen zu Beginn der Kreuzfahrt den PONANT Tauchguides vorgelegt werden.
Ablauf der Tauchgänge (zertifizierte Taucher)
Der Tauchguide behält sich das Recht vor, die Fähigkeit der Taucher auf maximale Sicherheit zu überprüfen. Da wir an abgelegenen Orten tauchen, werden die Tauchgänge ohne Dekompressionsstopp durchgeführt. Ein Sicherheitsstopp von 3 Minuten bei 5 Metern ist obligatorisch. Die Tiefe, die erreicht werden kann, hängt von der Zertifizierung der Taucher ab:
- Für diejenigen mit PADI Advanced Open Water Diver-Zertifikat (oder einem gleichwertigen Zertifikat) beträgt die maximale Tiefe bis zu 20 Meter.
- Wenn zwei CMAS sterne oder PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (oder gleichwertiges Zertifikat) unabhängig tauchen möchten, müssen sie zuerst eine Einweisung erhalten. Sie müssen Tauchcomputer haben und dürfen maximal eine Tiefe von 20 Metern erreichen.
Ablauf der Schnuppertauchgänge (Tauchanfänger)
Vor dem ersten Tauchgang zeigt Ihnen der Tauchguide die Ausrüstung und erklärt, wie unter Wasser mit Handzeichen kommuniziert wird und wie das Atmen durch einen Atemregler funktioniert. Sobald Sie im Wasser sind und mit der entsprechenden Ausrüstung ausgestattet sind, lernen Sie, wie Sie einige Minuten lang durch Ihren Atemregler an der Oberfläche atmen. Wenn der Tauchguide das Gefühlt hat, dass Sie bereit sind, taucht er mit Ihnen etwa 20 Minuten lang bis zu einer Tiefe von maximal 6 Metern.
Dauer der Tauchgänge
Die Tauchgänge dauern 2 bis 3 Stunden, einschließlich der Fahrt zum Tauchplatz und des Tauchens. Diese Dauer kann je nach Standort, Taucherniveau, Wetterbedingungen und Teilnehmerzahl variieren. Für erfahrene Taucher variiert die Tauchdauer je nach Ort, Erfahrung und Verbrauch des Tauchers zwischen 35 und 60 Minuten.

In Ausnahmefällen können diese gemäß den Hygienebedingungen* ausgeliehen werden.

Alotau, die Hauptstadt der Provinz Milne-Bucht, liegt an der Südostküste Papua-Neuguineas. 160 der mehr als 600 Inseln sind unbewohnt. Die herzlichen und gastfreundlichen Einheimischen machen die Städte Papua-Neuguineas zu echten Oasen der Ruhe. Im Laufe der Jahre lockte die Provinz Milne-Bucht Missionare und Perlentaucher an und wurde von japanischen und amerikanischen Kriegsschiffen angesteuert, die insbesondere bei der Schlacht um die Milne-Bucht während des Pazifikkrieges noch heute sichtbare Spuren hinterlassen haben. Lautoka ist die zweitgrößte Stadt der Fidschi-Inseln, gelegen an der Westküste der Insel Viti Levu. Lautoka wird auch die „Zuckerstadt“ genannt, da sie im Herzen des Zuckerrohranbaus liegt. Sie ist das Tor zur Küste von Fidschi, wo die Sonne am immer blauen Himmel scheint. Schroffe, grüne Gipfel wechseln sich mit Zuckerrohrfeldern ab, zwischen denen ländliche Dörfer mit malerischen Märkten liegen.
Historical Alotau
Alotau is set within the bay of Milne bay (the bay in which the province derived its name) that stretches far and wide towards the west The bay itself is picturesque with villages and other new developments on either sides of the bay.
Our day starts by heading west to Turnbull War Memorial driving past beachside properties and local villages, a nice scenic drive along sealed road. Here you find remains of WW2 and commentary on WW2 will be given on the Battle of Milne bay. Leaving Turnbull drive further west to Ladava village to see the old slipway built by the Australians that was used during WW2.
Then head back along the same road to KB Mission for more WW2 history. A short drive back to town takes us to the Alotau War Memorial. Here you have the opportunity to shop. A good selection of arts and crafts from the Milne bay province will be on display.
Leaving Alotau War Memorial drive uphill to Top Town Lookout. From here you have an excellent view of the Milne bay, and the township beneath. Driving downhill passing old Anglican church and hospital takes us back to the pier.

Daduwe & Bou traditional villages
Milne bay Province located on the eastern tip of PNG consists of the mainland and approximately 600 islands is a tropical paradise with coconut palm lined beaches and villages scattered alongside offers an intriguing experience. Being the coastal province it does not only offer water activities but also offers touring the cultural villages and study the daily life’s of the villagers, who depend on subsistence farming, fishing and hunting.
Our day starts by heading east driving along the coastline passing many traditional villages with spectacular scenery to the very first cricket ground in PNG where the first cricket in the country was played. Heading further east we arrive at Daduwe for village study. Take a 10 minute hike off the road along the natural forest takes you to this beautifully set cultural village. Here witness the traditional cooking method, sago making (staple food), weaving mats, baskets and and other activities. Coconut drinks and other refreshments will be provided for those who wish to taste the local delicacy. This village was the site where a big feast was held by chiefs from all around Milne bay while on their Kula trade in the early days. Evidence of this are the remains of pieces of the clay pots used during that time. A few minutes walk takes us to a magic rock where new gem stones are popping out on the sides of this rock. Leaving Daduwe, we continue onto Bou village to witness the different cultural performance that resembles the different island and mainland cultures. This surely is colorful and exciting to witness. Here we witness children paddling in their canoes as they learn to become skilled for sea ferrying as they reach the age to sail the seas on trade missions or visiting neighbors, relatives at places where it requires sea travel.
On completion of the village visits we head back to town for our last stop at the Alotau War Memorial where we learn a little of the war in Milne bay and for souvenir shopping before heading back for the ship.

Exploring Samarai Island
Discover this charming island community on a walking tour with the locals. Established in the 1800s, the township of Samarai attracted gold prospectors and other traders during its early days, and was once the provincial capital of Milne Bay, with a robust pre-World War I and World War II history. Among its best-known residents was the dashing Hollywood actor Errol Flynn.
Departing from the pier, you will begin your walking tour. Enjoy a warm welcome from the local community, who will greet you in the traditional Melanesian way—with singing and dancing. You can then attend arts and crafts displays, demonstrations of traditional grass-skirt making and the extraction of sago (starch) from palms, and other aspects of local life. You will also have free time to walk around the island community and mingle with the locals before going back to the pier.

Embark on a guided tour that reveals many points of scenic, cultural, and historic interest about the Solomon Islands and their capital city, Honiara, on the northwestern coast of Guadalcanal.
From the pier, you’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle for your panoramic tour. Among the highlights you’ll see is the Parliament House, a fine example of the architectural designs of these islands. You’ll also see the U.S. War Memorial, built in 1992 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal. The memorial site provides an excellent view of Iron Bottom Sound and the surrounding mountainous regions of Honiara and Guadalcanal.

Amazing Grace Cocoa Farm and Gardens Tour
Situated on the black sands of Tenaru Beach, just outside of Honiara, the tour will give you the chance to witness the cocoa farming process up close.
The Tour begins with a tour of Amazing Grace’s Cocoa farm. There are a variety of Cocoa planted in the Solomons for the export market. The tour continues to see the fermenting and drying process. This process is specifically for exporting to the Boutique chocolate makers. The garden also has a good selection of local fruits and root crops that are eaten by the locals. The final tour stop is the preparation of the locally made chocolate manually pounded and cooked to perfection.
For chocolate makers, this black sandy soil may contribute to the intensely earthy profile of Grace’s beans, a distinct flavour in all her products. Guests can have a taste of the cocoa tea and chocolate.

Canoe the Riri River
Your tour begins with a 30-minute drive through Luganville to the mouth of the Riri River.
Here friendly guides will help as you board a fiberglass canoe and head off on your journey down the river. Your guide will do the paddling, so you can relax and really take in the scenery. You will truly feel a million miles away from civilization as you glide silently across the water and all you can hear are the sounds of the rainforest and the hushed whispers of those around you. Keep an eye out for tropical flowers and schools of brightly coloured fish that swim alongside the canoe. Surrounded by rainforest, stop at the breath-taking, freshwater Blue Hole for a swim in water that is so blue it must be seen to be believed. The natural spring is nearly 60-feet deep and gets its brilliant blue colour from the white limestone rocks refracting the sunlight through the clear water.
You will re-join your mini-bus here to begin your trip back to your ship.

Relics of WW II
During WWII, Espiritu Santo was used as a naval harbour, military supply and support base for 100,000 allied troops. At the end of the war U.S. forces abandoned the island leaving behind a large amount of equipment that remains on the island today as fascinating relics.
Visit BP Wharf, built to support the navy's large vessels, and now home to yachts and other marine craft. Photo stops along the way include a lookout point with views over Segond Chanel, Tutuba and Aore Islands. Your guide will point out the position of the submarine nets and the sea mines that sunk the SS President Coolidge. You will also visit Euart's Memorial, named for Capt. Elwood Euart who sacrificed his life saving men on the SS President Coolidge after it struck two mines in the harbor and sank. Next stop is Million Dollar Point where thousands of tons of military equipment was abandoned in the ocean by the US military.

Northern Seaside & Blue Hole
Start your tour with a scenic drive along the north-eastern coast of the island, passing by coconut plantations and quaint local villages along the way. Surrounded by lush tropical rainforest, stop at the breath-taking, freshwater Blue Hole for a swim in water that is so blue it must be seen to be believed.
The natural spring is nearly 60 feet deep and gets its brilliant blue colours from the white limestone rocks refracting the sunlight through the clear water. You will have plenty of time here to swim and relax in this natural oasis.

Discover Darwin's rich history and culture and learn about Darwin's role during World War II as you see its many historic wartime landmarks. You will drive past St Marys Cathedral, travel up to and along the Esplanade, the Parliament House, the Old Court House, the Anglican Cathedral. Pass Bicentennial Park, and the Old Town hall ruins.
You will then be transferred to the port of Darwin, to embark on board your ship.

Alotau is set within the bay of Milne bay (the bay in which the province derived its name) that stretches far and wide towards the west The bay itself is picturesque with villages and other new developments on either sides of the bay.
Our day starts by heading west to Turnbull War Memorial driving past beachside properties and local villages, a nice scenic drive along sealed road. Here you find remains of WW2 and commentary on WW2 will be given on the Battle of Milne bay. Leaving Turnbull drive further west to Ladava village to see the old slipway built by the Australians that was used during WW2.
Then head back along the same road to KB Mission for more WW2 history. A short drive back to town takes us to the Alotau War Memorial. Here you have the opportunity to shop. A good selection of arts and crafts from the Milne bay province will be on display.
Leaving Alotau War Memorial drive uphill to Top Town Lookout. From here you have an excellent view of the Milne bay, and the township beneath. Driving downhill passing old Anglican church and hospital takes us back to the pier.

Daduwe & Bou traditional villages
Milne bay Province located on the eastern tip of PNG consists of the mainland and approximately 600 islands is a tropical paradise with coconut palm lined beaches and villages scattered alongside offers an intriguing experience. Being the coastal province it does not only offer water activities but also offers touring the cultural villages and study the daily life’s of the villagers, who depend on subsistence farming, fishing and hunting.
Our day starts by heading east driving along the coastline passing many traditional villages with spectacular scenery to the very first cricket ground in PNG where the first cricket in the country was played. Heading further east we arrive at Daduwe for village study. Take a 10 minute hike off the road along the natural forest takes you to this beautifully set cultural village. Here witness the traditional cooking method, sago making (staple food), weaving mats, baskets and and other activities. Coconut drinks and other refreshments will be provided for those who wish to taste the local delicacy. This village was the site where a big feast was held by chiefs from all around Milne bay while on their Kula trade in the early days. Evidence of this are the remains of pieces of the clay pots used during that time. A few minutes walk takes us to a magic rock where new gem stones are popping out on the sides of this rock. Leaving Daduwe, we continue onto Bou village to witness the different cultural performance that resembles the different island and mainland cultures. This surely is colorful and exciting to witness. Here we witness children paddling in their canoes as they learn to become skilled for sea ferrying as they reach the age to sail the seas on trade missions or visiting neighbors, relatives at places where it requires sea travel.
On completion of the village visits we head back to town for our last stop at the Alotau War Memorial where we learn a little of the war in Milne bay and for souvenir shopping before heading back for the ship.

Exploring Samarai Island
Discover this charming island community on a walking tour with the locals. Established in the 1800s, the township of Samarai attracted gold prospectors and other traders during its early days, and was once the provincial capital of Milne Bay, with a robust pre-World War I and World War II history. Among its best-known residents was the dashing Hollywood actor Errol Flynn.
Departing from the pier, you will begin your walking tour. Enjoy a warm welcome from the local community, who will greet you in the traditional Melanesian way—with singing and dancing. You can then attend arts and crafts displays, demonstrations of traditional grass-skirt making and the extraction of sago (starch) from palms, and other aspects of local life. You will also have free time to walk around the island community and mingle with the locals before going back to the pier.

Honiara City Highlights
Embark on a guided tour that reveals many points of scenic, cultural, and historic interest about the Solomon Islands and their capital city, Honiara, on the northwestern coast of Guadalcanal.
From the pier, you’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle for your panoramic tour. Among the highlights you’ll see is the Parliament House, a fine example of the architectural designs of these islands. You’ll also see the U.S. War Memorial, built in 1992 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal. The memorial site provides an excellent view of Iron Bottom Sound and the surrounding mountainous regions of Honiara and Guadalcanal.
Next, view the local flora and fauna of the islands at the Botanical Gardens, and admire the diverse cultural artifacts of the islands at the National Museum. You will also have the opportunity to browse the local carving shops or craft market before you are transferred back to the ship.

Amazing Grace Cocoa Farm and Gardens Tour
Situated on the black sands of Tenaru Beach, just outside of Honiara, the tour will give you the chance to witness the cocoa farming process up close.
The Tour begins with a tour of Amazing Grace’s Cocoa farm. There are a variety of Cocoa planted in the Solomons for the export market. The tour continues to see the fermenting and drying process. This process is specifically for exporting to the Boutique chocolate makers. The garden also has a good selection of local fruits and root crops that are eaten by the locals. The final tour stop is the preparation of the locally made chocolate manually pounded and cooked to perfection.
For chocolate makers, this black sandy soil may contribute to the intensely earthy profile of Grace’s beans, a distinct flavour in all her products. Guests can have a taste of the cocoa tea and chocolate.

Canoe the Riri River
Your tour begins with a 30-minute drive through Luganville to the mouth of the Riri River.
Here friendly guides will help as you board a fiberglass canoe and head off on your journey down the river. Your guide will do the paddling, so you can relax and really take in the scenery. You will truly feel a million miles away from civilization as you glide silently across the water and all you can hear are the sounds of the rainforest and the hushed whispers of those around you. Keep an eye out for tropical flowers and schools of brightly coloured fish that swim alongside the canoe. Surrounded by rainforest, stop at the breath-taking, freshwater Blue Hole for a swim in water that is so blue it must be seen to be believed. The natural spring is nearly 60-feet deep and gets its brilliant blue colour from the white limestone rocks refracting the sunlight through the clear water.

Relics of WW II
During WWII, Espiritu Santo was used as a naval harbour, military supply and support base for 100,000 allied troops. At the end of the war U.S. forces abandoned the island leaving behind a large amount of equipment that remains on the island today as fascinating relics.
Visit BP Wharf, built to support the navy's large vessels, and now home to yachts and other marine craft. Photo stops along the way include a lookout point with views over Segond Chanel, Tutuba and Aore Islands. Your guide will point out the position of the submarine nets and the sea mines that sunk the SS President Coolidge. You will also visit Euart's Memorial, named for Capt. Elwood Euart who sacrificed his life saving men on the SS President Coolidge after it struck two mines in the harbor and sank. Next stop is Million Dollar Point where thousands of tons of military equipment was abandoned in the ocean by the US military.

You will visit the largest Hindu Temple of the island. During British colonial rule in Fiji, many Indian migrants came to work on sugar cane plantations. They arrived with a contract of employment from the British government. At the end of their contract, many of them choose to settle in Fiji and brought with them the Hindu culture and religion.
In 1984, eight artists from India were invited to participate in the construction of this huge complex of temples. Take the time to admire the pyramidal shape of the various buildings, all characterized by a staircase architecture and fine sculptures of deities, kings and knights.
Continue to the Sleeping Giant garden, a horticultural garden specialized in native plants from Fiji with a very impressive collection of orchids. There are over 2000 listed orchid species. The Sleeping Giant is a mountain range that can be seen from Nadi. It has this name (sleeping giant), because the ridge line represents the profile of a lying man.
