Von Glasgow aus geht es als Erstes nach Tobermory, einem charmanten Fischerhafen mit bunten Häusern, in dessen Destillerie ein berühmter Single Malt Whisky hergestellt wird.
Anschließend fahren Sie zum Loch Ewe im Nordwesten der Highlands. Am Ende dieses Meeresarms liegen die bemerkenswerten Inverewe Gardens, eine botanische Kuriosität und ein schottischer Garten Eden. Als Nächstes geht es weiter entlang der Küste der Shiant Islands. Bei einer Ausfahrt mit dem Zodiac können Sie die riesigen Sandsteinklippen bewundern, in denen zahlreiche Seevogelkolonien nisten.
Mitten in der Nordsee liegt der schottische Archipel der Shetlandinseln mit ungeahnten Schätzen auf seinen rauen Landstrichen und gezackten Küsten. Lassen Sie sich von Foula fesseln, einer der abgelegensten Inseln, auf der die Menschen mit den Elementen zurechtkommen mussten.
Dann steuert Ihr Schiff nordwärts zu den Färöer-Inseln, dem nördlichsten autonomen Gebiet Dänemarks. Auf diesem abgelegenen Archipel tauchen Sie in eine wilde und überwältigende Natur ein. Die Landschaft der Insel Suduroy ist geprägt von hügeligen, von Schafen bevölkerten Ebenen, schroffen Berggipfeln, Bergseen und zerklüfteten Klippen mit Blick auf die Inseln, die außergewöhnliche Panoramen bilden. In Streymoy umsegeln Sie die von Seevogelkolonien bevölkerten Klippen. In diesen Gefilden sind die Wikingerlegenden und die nordische Kosmogonie nie weit entfernt.
Sie erreichen die Hebrideninseln in Stornoway, der im 9. Jahrhundert von den Wikingern erbauten Hauptstadt der Insel, wo sich eine der bedeutendsten prähistorischen Stätten Schottlands befindet: die Steinformation von Calanais.
Anschließend nehmen Sie Kurs auf den Südwesten der Highlands und erreichen Fort William. Diese Hafenstadt am Ufer von Loch Linnhe ist von schottischer Geschichte und Tradition durchdrungen. Ganz in der Nähe liegen die wunderschönen und spektakulären Landschaften von Glencoe.

Landings can be operated in tenders, in zodiac or on the quayside. Programmes include moderate walks to more active hikes, all accompanied by your team of naturalist guides.
Ports of call, visited sites, and landings will depend on weather conditions, position of ice, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time. The Captain may at any time cancel or stop any activity, or even modify the itinerary. The final itinerary will be confirmed by the Captain, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. His decision will be based on advice from experts and authorities.
Travelling to polar/isolated regions is an exhilarating experience in remote areas: please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is extremely expensive. Das ganz im Norden der ansprechenden Insel Mull gelegene Tobermory ist sicherlich einer der schönsten Naturhäfen der Westküste Schottlands. Dieses 1788 gegründete ehemalige Fischerdorf wurde in einen Jachthafen umgewandelt, der heute sehr für seinen Rahmen und das von ihm ausgehende beschauliche Flair geschätzt wird. Bezaubernd sind auch die entlang der Hügelflanke stufenförmig angeordneten Häuser, deren leuchtende Farben den Hafen erstrahlen lassen. Auch wenn das eigentliche Schauspiel draußen stattfindet, nicht weniger interessant ist die Sammlung des Mull Museums, die der lokalen Geschichte sowie den Ausstellungen in der Kunstgalerie An Tobar gewidmet ist.

Loch Ewe ist ein von Bergen umgebener Meeresarm des Nordatlantiks im Nordwesten der Highlands. An diesem ehemaligen Knotenpunkt für den Seehandel versammelten sich während des Zweiten Weltkriegs Militärschiffe, um sichere Konvois in die Arktis zu organisieren. An seinem Ufer liegt Inverewe Garden, ein bemerkenswerter botanischer Garten mit mehreren hundert tropischen Pflanzen und Baumarten, die dank des Golfstroms gedeihen. Der von endemischen Kiefern vor starken Winden geschützte Garten wurde 1862 von dem Landbesitzer Osgood Mackenzie und seiner Tochter Mairi Sawyer angelegt und enthüllt ungeahnte Farben, Formen und Düfte. Heute wird er vom National Trust for Scotland verwaltet. Vielleicht haben Sie das Glück, einige der wilden Tiere Schottlands zu sehen: das rote Eichhörnchen, den Rothirsch, den Seehund, die Robbe oder den Steinadler.

Der Name der Shiant Islands leitet sich von ihrem gälischen Namen Na h-Eileanan Seunta ab, der „verzauberte Inseln“ bedeutet. Ob im Nebel, der die Inselgruppe häufig umhüllt, oder bei strahlendem Sonnenschein – wer die Shiant Islands besucht, ist ihrem Charme schnell verfallen. Der Archipel ist ein wahres Paradies für die Beobachtung von Vögeln und Meeressäugern und zeichnet sich durch seine unberührte Schönheit aus. Papageientaucher, Lummen und Tordalks finden in den Klippen Zuflucht und leben Seite an Seite mit Eissturmvögeln und Dreizehenmöwen. Über den unzugänglichen Klippen schwebt der große Seeadler. Die Robben hingegen tummeln sich am liebsten um Felsgruppen.

St. Kilda ist eine Gruppe von sieben vulkanischen Inseln 35 Seemeilen westlich der Äußeren Hebriden, die abgelegensten der Britischen Inseln. Es ist die einzige Stätte in Großbritannien, die aufgrund ihres einzigartigen Kultur- und Naturerbes zum Welterbe erklärt wurde. Saint Kilda wird seit 1957 vom National Trust for Scotland verwaltet. Den vor Ort gefundenen Überresten zufolge scheinen die ersten Besucher die Insel in der Bronzezeit entdeckt zu haben. 2000 Jahre lang überlebte dort eine kleine Gemeinschaft von Bewohnern in Autarkie, bis die letzten Bewohner 1930 die Region verließen. Das Dorf gliedert sich in die für die Hebriden typischen schwarzen Häuser, Parzellen mit fruchtbarem Boden und Cleits, Trockensteinstrukturen zur Lagerung von Lebensmitteln, die über den gesamten Archipel verstreut sind. Auf Soay leben endemische Schafe in freier Wildbahn und die beeindruckenden Klippen des Archipels beherbergen Kolonien von Papageitauchern und Basstölpeln.

Etwa 20 Seemeilen westlich der Shetland-Inseln liegt Foula, die abgelegenste Insel des Archipels und der bewohnten Britischen Inseln. Ihre 30 verbliebenen Einwohner leben noch nach dem julianischen Kalender, der 46 v. Chr. von Julius Cäsar eingeführt wurde. Die 12,5 km2 lange Felseninsel zeichnet sich durch bis zu 365 m hohe Klippen aus. Im Inneren liegen einige Bauernhöfe inmitten großer Heide- und Moorlandschaften, wo Schafherden und Ponys in völliger Freiheit leben. Die Wikinger waren die ersten Seefahrer, die die Insel entdeckten. Sie nannten sie Fugl-Oy, „Vogelinsel“. Sie können diese grüne, windgepeitschte Landschaft bis zu den Klippen Hiora Wick und Gaada Stack erkunden, wo Meeresvogel-Kolonien nisten, darunter Eissturmvögel, Papageitaucher und Eiderenten.

Die Insel Suduroy, wörtlich „Südinsel“, ist eine der am wenigsten bevölkerten Inseln der Färöer. An ihrer Westküste sind steile Klippen zu bestaunen. Die Insel ist ein wichtiger Brutplatz für Meeresvögel, insbesondere für Eissturmvögel, Dreizehenmöwen, Papageitaucher und Lummen. Sie entdecken die Insel, ihre authentischen Dörfer mit den für die Färöer typischen Kirchen aus schwarz geteertem Holz sowie ihre Wanderwege, die von Torffeldern und steinernen Schafställen gesäumt sind. Die Schafe sind nämlich auf den gesamten Färöern allgegenwärtig – es gibt mehr Schafe als Einwohner – und tragen zum Charme dieser wilden Landschaften bei.

Die Insel Streymoy ist die größte und mit 22.500 Einwohnern die bevölkerungsreichste der Färöer-Inseln. Der zwischen Schottland und Island gelegene dänische Archipel mit 18 Inseln bietet Naturwunder, die Liebhaber unberührter Natur faszinieren werden. Grüne, hügelige Reliefs neben riesigen Basaltfelsen trotzen in der frischen, belebenden Luft den Launen des Ozeans. Im Norden liegt das kleine Dorf Saksun mit traditionellen Grasdachhäusern, das 14 Einwohner zählt. In der Mulde eines prächtigen natürlichen Amphitheaters überblickt es einen Fjord mit einer Lagune: eine idyllische Kulisse in einer abgeschiedenen und friedlichen Umgebung. In Vestmanna im Westen nisten zahlreiche Vögel auf schwindelerregend hoch aufragenden Felsen.

Hiking in Hvannhagi
A geological marvel testifying to the natural forces that have shaped the Faroese landscape over the millennia, the valley of Hvannhagi will reveal itself during this strenuous but breathtaking hike.
Located on the eastern coast of Suðuroy, the charming village of Tvøroyri marks the beginning of your hike. Leaving behind the small colourful houses, you will join a narrow path, climbing steeply along the hills. Soon, the mountain will open up and you will reach “the door”, a point that reaches an altitude of 300 metres (almost 1,000 feet), offering an incredible panorama over the neighbouring cliffs and the islands of Lítla Dímun, Stóra Dímun and Skúvoy.
After this first step, it will be time to reach the valley of Hvannhagi, taking the Shepherd’s Steps, constructed by Nepalese artisans in summer 2023. After a fairly steep descent, you will finally reach this preserved site, peopled with sheep and birds. Surrounded by sculptural mountains and facing a peaceful lake, this raw nature forged by millennia of tectonic and volcanic activity is a veritable paradise for those who love large open spaces and geology, as well as for photographs.
- This hike of 8 to 9 kilometres (between 5 and 5.6 miles) is demanding, especially the descent and the climb back up at Hvannhagi. Suduroy, unspoiled nature
Welcome to Suduroy, the southernmost Faroe Island. Nature has pride of place here, while authenticity is the watchword. Between fjords, tall mountains and sheer cliffs, its untamed landscapes will not leave you indifferent.
During your tour around the island in a car, you will marvel at the diversity and breathtaking beauty of Suduroy’s scenery. With scarcely 5,000 inhabitants scattered over around 165 km² (68 square miles), nature prevails over the picturesque villages, with some of the most magical natural sites in the Faroe Islands. The fjords, mountains, fields (and sheep) and forests will unfold as you explore the island.
You will stop at Cape Akraberg on the southern point of the island, to take photos. This narrow strip of land that juts out into the sea and finishes in a cliff capped with a lighthouse will impress you with its beauty and its wild side. Watch out for the wind! The village of Saksun

You will set off for the first stop on your adventure: the village of Kollafjørður, famous for its old wooden church with its turf roof.
Then you will head north to discover the village of Saksun. As you come closer to your destination, majestic panoramas reveal themselves. Nestling at the end of the road, between the green meadows and the mountains, a singular village will appear. You are seeing Dúvugardar and its old farm, which has today become a national heritage museum which recounts the day-to-day lives of Faroese farmers in the 20th century. The Vestmanna cliffs
Set off to discover the spectacular Vestmanna cliffs, natural splendours that plunge steeply into the depths of the ocean.
You will set off to Runavík in a coach going via the underwater tunnel, which has the world’s only underwater roundabout, to Streymoy Island and then onto Vestmanna. The Dantean cliffs here are 600 metres (2,000 feet) high and home to marine caves and abundant wildlife.
You will board a local boat to discover this diamond in the rough. You will sail along the cliff to a narrow gorge, where the sheer rock walls rise towards the sky, then you will enter one of the caves. The daylight will disappear to make way for the whisper of the flowing water that surrounds you… An experience during which time stands still, reminding us of the great power of the elements.

Your full day tour begins with a walking tour of the city. See the Georgian architecture of Princes Street in New Town and drive down parts of the famous medieval Royal Mile with the imposing Edinburgh Castle at one end and the 17th century Palace of Holyroodhouse at the other. The Palace was the home of Mary Queen of Scots from 1561 to 1568 and was occupied by Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745. The scene of many a great historical drama including notorious murders, and power-hungry personalities, the Palace is now the Queen's official residence in Scotland. You will head to one of the city's high vantage points for some spectacular views over the city before visiting the castle.
A majestic landmark which dominates the capital city's skyline just as it has dominated Scotland's long and colourful history, Edinburgh Castle is the best known & most visited of Scotland's historic buildings. Perched on an extinct volcano and offering stunning views, this instantly recognisable fortress is a powerful national symbol, and part of Edinburgh's World Heritage Sites.
Once inside, you will have the opportunity to see the castle's many different architectural styles, reflecting its importance throughout the history of Scotland, with the oldest section dating back to the 12th century. You will also have the opportunity to view the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the Stone of Destiny.

A geological marvel testifying to the natural forces that have shaped the Faroese landscape over the millennia, the valley of Hvannhagi will reveal itself during this strenuous but breathtaking hike.
Located on the eastern coast of Suðuroy, the charming village of Tvøroyri marks the beginning of your hike. Leaving behind the small colourful houses, you will join a narrow path, climbing steeply along the hills. Soon, the mountain will open up and you will reach “the door”, a point that reaches an altitude of 300 metres (almost 1,000 feet), offering an incredible panorama over the neighbouring cliffs and the islands of Lítla Dímun, Stóra Dímun and Skúvoy.
After this first step, it will be time to reach the valley of Hvannhagi, taking the Shepherd’s Steps, constructed by Nepalese artisans in summer 2023. After a fairly steep descent, you will finally reach this preserved site, peopled with sheep and birds. Surrounded by sculptural mountains and facing a peaceful lake, this raw nature forged by millennia of tectonic and volcanic activity is a veritable paradise for those who love large open spaces and geology, as well as for photographs.

You will set off to Runavík in a coach going via the underwater tunnel, which has the world’s only underwater roundabout, to Streymoy Island and then onto Vestmanna. The Dantean cliffs here are 600 metres (2,000 feet) high and home to marine caves and abundant wildlife.
You will board a local boat to discover this diamond in the rough. You will sail along the cliff to a narrow gorge, where the sheer rock walls rise towards the sky, then you will enter one of the caves. The daylight will disappear to make way for the whisper of the flowing water that surrounds you… An experience during which time stands still, reminding us of the great power of the elements.
- This excursion involves walking on primarily flat paths, including some steps. We recommend you wear warm clothing, a waterproof jacket and a windbreaker, and bring binoculars.
