During this visit, you will discover the people who work every day for a more respectful and reasoned form of local agriculture that also promotes social integration.
From the pier, you will board your minivan for a 30-minute scenic drive to Fond Latisab Creole Park, a place that exemplifies creole traditions.
Upon your arrival, you will be introduced to Helen’s Daughters, a St. Lucian non-profit association. Their mission is to amplify the role of women in the agricultural industry in Saint Lucia and the region. They have trained over 1000 women since 2016 and helped hundreds of farmers transition away from pesticides and achieve more sustainable incomes.
They have created an agri-tourism experience entitled, “In the Eyes of a FarmHER”. The first visit will be to Helena Thomas, a farmer located at Fond Lastisab. Farming to her is more than just her profession, it has become part of her everyday life and she has made it into a family affair; she has been sharing this adventure with her children and grandchildren for over 40 years. Get a glimpse into the role that women play in the production of food and how women farm differently.
After this first experience, you will get a chance to plant your own seedlings, looking at flora and fauna endemic to the Caribbean and learn how to make local spices and jams. You will have plenty of time to take photos or take a break by the nearby river while enjoying local, light refreshments produced in the farm you just visited.
You will then depart Fond Latisab for a short drive to Stony Hill, a private property. Here, you will enjoy a guided tour through the tropical and orchid garden. With a captivating view of Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island, you will relax while enjoying a cool refreshment and local snacks before returning to your ship.
