Tauchen & erster Tauchgang
Begleitung der Tauchgänge
Ihre Tauchgänge werden von unseren PONANT Tauchguides begleitet. Diese werden sich um Ihre Sicherheit und einen reibungslosen Ablauf kümmern. An einigen Tauchplätzen, wie in Naturschutzgebieten oder wenn die örtlichen Vorschriften dies vorschreiben, wird zusätzlich ein lokaler Führer das Tauchen begleiten.
Erforderliches Tauchlevel während dieser Kreuzfahrt
Das erforderliche Niveau für Gäste, die während dieser Kreuzfahrt tauchen möchten, ist PADI Open Water Diver, CMAS 1 Stern oder ein gleichwertiges Zertifikat. Die Zertifizierung, das Tauchlogbuch und ein aktuelles ärztliches Attest (weniger als 12 Monate alt) müssen zu Beginn der Kreuzfahrt den PONANT Tauchguides vorgelegt werden.
Ablauf der Tauchgänge (zertifizierte Taucher)
Der Tauchguide behält sich das Recht vor, die Fähigkeit der Taucher auf maximale Sicherheit zu überprüfen. Da wir an abgelegenen Orten tauchen, werden die Tauchgänge ohne Dekompressionsstopp durchgeführt. Ein Sicherheitsstopp von 3 Minuten bei 5 Metern ist obligatorisch. Die Tiefe, die erreicht werden kann, hängt von der Zertifizierung der Taucher ab:
- Für diejenigen mit PADI Advanced Open Water Diver-Zertifikat (oder einem gleichwertigen Zertifikat) beträgt die maximale Tiefe bis zu 20 Meter.
- Wenn zwei CMAS sterne oder PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (oder gleichwertiges Zertifikat) unabhängig tauchen möchten, müssen sie zuerst eine Einweisung erhalten. Sie müssen Tauchcomputer haben und dürfen maximal eine Tiefe von 20 Metern erreichen.
Ablauf der Schnuppertauchgänge (Tauchanfänger)
Vor dem ersten Tauchgang zeigt Ihnen der Tauchguide die Ausrüstung und erklärt, wie unter Wasser mit Handzeichen kommuniziert wird und wie das Atmen durch einen Atemregler funktioniert. Sobald Sie im Wasser sind und mit der entsprechenden Ausrüstung ausgestattet sind, lernen Sie, wie Sie einige Minuten lang durch Ihren Atemregler an der Oberfläche atmen. Wenn der Tauchguide das Gefühlt hat, dass Sie bereit sind, taucht er mit Ihnen etwa 20 Minuten lang bis zu einer Tiefe von maximal 6 Metern.
Dauer der Tauchgänge
Die Tauchgänge dauern 2 bis 3 Stunden, einschließlich der Fahrt zum Tauchplatz und des Tauchens. Diese Dauer kann je nach Standort, Taucherniveau, Wetterbedingungen und Teilnehmerzahl variieren. Für erfahrene Taucher variiert die Tauchdauer je nach Ort, Erfahrung und Verbrauch des Tauchers zwischen 35 und 60 Minuten.

During the different dives, divers can observe various species of benthic fauna such as French angel fish, queen angel fish, spotted drums, puffer fish, parrots fish, and pelagic fauna such as spotted eagle ray, barracudas, horse eyes jackfish, as well as fixed wildlife such as gorgonians and barrel sponges.

Start your excursion with a relaxing 20-minute coach journey. Admire the bright tropical colours and vibrant coastal landscapes along the way, before you arrive at Firefly, a centuries-old historic estate. Here, you will savour a meal freshly prepared with locally-grown seasonal produce.
Next, set off to discover Grenadines Wild Sea, a wonderful place, where sea salt is produced in striking buildings converted from an old sugar mill. Your guide will take you through the salt-making process, from harvesting the seawater to obtaining the salt crystals, right through to the ‘clean room’, where the sea salt is cleaned of imperfections and bottled by local staff. Before leaving, you will have the opportunity to taste this salt and visit the shop to purchase some sea salt products.
Continue your adventure to Fort Hamilton, a site steeped in history offering breathtaking views over Admiralty Bay and the surrounding islands. Enjoy a different perspective from Mount Pleasant, the highest point of the island from where Bequia’s coastline and lush hills reveal themselves.
Another stop on your exploration will be the Model Boat Shop, famous for its handmade model vessels. Arriving on site, you will discover the rich maritime history of the island of Bequia as well as the art of shipbuilding.
You will then re-board your coach for the scenic journey back to your ship.

From the pier, board your open-air jeep for a short 15-minute drive to the virgin Lower Bay Beach.
Upon your arrival at this sun-splashed tropical oasis, receive a brief orientation before spending over two hours relaxing at your leisure.
During your visit, enjoy the golden-sand beaches, and swim in the inviting blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. You will relax in a comfortable lounge chair and soak up the warm, tropical sun with the sand between your toes and the warm, tropical breeze in your hair.
Whenever you would like to enjoy some refreshments, complimentary soft drinks and water are available from the bar. From this vantage point, you can also see your ship anchored peacefully in the bay.
After your visit, re-board your open-air jeep and commence the short drive back to the pier.

Wonders of Soufrière
From the pier board your coach for a leisurely drive through the town of Soufrière.
Your first stop will be at the Botanical Gardens and Diamond Baths, where the exuberant vegetation spreads its colour among a profusion of exotic flowers. The garden was a famous spot for Napoléon's wife, Joséphine. Marvel at the tropical plants carefully arranged along the sides of the pathway leading to the waterfall.
Then you will visit the volcano in Soufrière, referred to as the Caribbean's only "drive-in" volcano. This historic site is the result of volcanic eruptions some 300,000 years ago. The Soufrière is a dormant volcano, where you will have the occasion to observe the Sulphur springs. Smell the sulphur as you enter the gates and inhale the natural scents. See the sulphuric fumaroles and steam jet escape from the soil whereas the sulphurous water of the natural baths boil at a temperature which can reaching 338 °F (170 °C).
Sulphur waters having medicinal properties, we invite you to enjoy a mud bath. Recognised to detoxifies the body, helping healing sun burns, eczema, arthritis, sore joints and more, you will live this unique experience.
After a short drive, you will reach Morne Coubaril Estate for a guided tour of this sprawling plateau farm. Producer of cocoa, coffee, coconuts, bananas and an assortment of other tropical products, this working plantation has been in the business of cultivation since the 17th century. It maintains some of the same harvesting and processing practices that have served it in good stead for hundreds of years.
Enjoy a refreshment and relax, before heading back to Soufrière and your ship.

Led by a local guide, you will first discover the northern part of the island and its stunning panoramas: the gentle curves and white beaches of Baie de Saint-Louis, and the secret coves of Vieux-Fort, where the sand disappears in the reflections of an endless horizon...
But the northern part of the island is best known for the series of coves carved into its high limestone cliffs by the relentless onslaught of the waves. Discover Gueule Grand Gouffre, a spectacular natural hole that opens onto an arch, like a portal to infinity. You will be struck by the raw grandeur of this place, immortalising the moment when nature reveals all its splendour.
Further south, the historic remains of Mare au Punch and the Murat plantation will transport you to a time when every stone held secret stories. Finally, you will enter the grounds of the former Murat plantation, its brick walls and its eco-museum full of tales about the island.

Take in the beautiful scenery before heading to La Maison de l'Indigo, which is developing a project to showcase West Indian plants that can be used for dyeing. Through its work, La Maison de l’Indigo contributes to the conservation of the dyeing plants of Guadeloupe and the Lesser Antilles, including the indigo plant imported from India in the 17th century, and shares its know-how during workshops introducing natural plant dyeing techniques. On a square of cotton fabric, you will experiment with different techniques to make your own creation and experience the indigo dyeing process first hand.

Hike along the Vieux-Fort trail
Escape from it all and take off on an adventure, hiking along the Vieux-Fort trail in Saint-Louis, surrounded by lush, unspoilt nature bathed in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

Marie-Galante, affectionately called “the island of a hundred mills”, invites you on a unique Caribbean adventure.
Starting in the village of Saint-Louis, the Vieux-Fort trail winds its way between beaches of white sand lined with coconut trees, limestone cliffs overlooking the sea, and sugar cane fields, silent witnesses to a rich past. The tropical scents of hibiscus and vanilla surround you with every step you take, while off to your side the myriad shades of blue in the sea create a breathtaking tableau.
As you continue your hike, you will arrive at Anse Carnot, a beach of white sand where tranquillity reigns supreme. Imagine yourself under a clear blue sky, the soothing sound of waves in the background, the neighbouring islands on the horizon.

Indian River by rowboat
From the pier, board your coach for a 15-minute transfer to the Indian River.
The Indian River is like a mini-Amazon teeming with life. It runs through the centre of the town of Portsmouth, in the North of Dominica. The river was named the Indian River after the settlements of the Kalinago, formally known as Carib Indians, which existed on the upper banks of that river.
The Indian River gushes down the Morne aux Diables Mountain range and gently meanders down to the lowlands of Portsmouth, where it flows gracefully into the Caribbean Sea. Due to its unique formation, being below sea level, the water at the lower areas of the river is brackish, contributing to the unique variety of plants and animal life. The Indian River showcases flora and fauna that are specific only to that area of Dominica. Local fauna includes herons, king fisher, iguanas, and a variety of other birds, many of which are still present after the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Maria. Vegetation continues to grow and is returning in full force.
Experienced boatmen in hand-oared wooden rowboats will take you up the slow-moving river at a leisurely pace, so that you can appreciate the many types of wildlife and plant life along the swampy riverbanks.
See first-hand where scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed. Upriver you can take a short 10-minute walk in the botanical gardens and visit the renowned "Bush Bar"?, where you can try their homemade rum punch.

Syndicate Nature trail
From the pier, board your coach for a 45-minute drive to Syndicate, where you will start your hiking tour.
Nestled in the foothills of Dominica’s tallest mountain, Morne Diablotin, and close to the Picard River Gorge, is the Syndicate Nature Trail. Located in the National Park, this lasso trail is home to Dominica’s National Bird — the Sisserou Parrot (Amazona imperialis) — and the Jaco (Amazona arausiaca). The Syndicate area is popular for bird watching as it is a bird sanctuary for some of the 51 species of local and migratory birds that may be found in the park. This area also has a diverse array of flora. It is a key location for research and educational purposes and has lovely view points along a walking path.
The trail looping through the forest will allow you to discover the main interest points and offers a panoramic view on the Dublanc River Valley. If you are particularly lucky, you could see a Jaco or a Sisserou Parrot, the National Bird. The forest is full of other life forms, including four species of hummingbirds.
Upon completion of your short hike, you will proceed to Syndicte Café for refreshments, before embarking on the 45-minute drive back to your ship.

Pointe Baptiste cocoa is harvested and gathered from local farmers in an ecological manner. The chocolate factory is a small family business which supports sustainable practices.
Upon arrival, you will be personally welcomed by the family and invited to discover their estate, learn about cocoa farming and the chocolate making process. They will share their knowledge and experience, and show you all the different processes used in making chocolate — from bean to bar.
After your visit, you will taste their fine chocolate bars. They offer many different varieties of chocolate: dark chocolate, ginger, coffee, spice, hot pepper, lemongrass, tangerine, mint and milk chocolate.

Traditional Kalinago cultural experience
From the pier, board your coach for a one-hour scenic drive to the village of Touna Aute.
The Kalinago, formerly known as Carib Territory or the Carib Reserve, is a specially reserved district of Dominica. Covering an area of 15 km² (5.8 sq mile), it was established to bring together the indigenous Carib people (or Kalinagos), who occupied the West Indies archipelago before the arrival of Europeans.
This is an exciting and educational tour to the Kalinago village of Touna Aute. The village is located on the North Eastern side of the island and is bounded by the Pagua River. Touna Aute is surrounded by spectacular mountain gorges and is home of one of the island’s endemic parrots, called the Jaco parrot or red-necked amazon (Amazonia arausiaca).
On your arrival to the village, a former Kalinago Chief will welcome you and provide a brief historical overview of the Kalinago People and the community. Your visit will continue with a short, guided, walking tour through the residential community to visit a few homes. You will be given the opportunity to discover the sustainable technique of growing Kalinago indigenous foods and making cassava bread.
A light typical buffet of homemade fresh delicacies and drinks will be served at the home of the former Kalinago Chief.
Then, you can have a refreshing moment, swimming in the crystal-clear river.

Tauchen
Bei einem Schnuppertauchgang oder einem Tauchgang für erfahrene Taucher, die die erforderlichen Zertifikate besitzen (Niveau 1 für Yachtkreuzfahrten und Niveau 2 für Expeditionskreuzfahrten), können Sie in Begleitung eines Tauchguides von PONANT und eines einheimischen Tauchguides, falls vorgeschrieben, die schönsten Unterwasserwelten der Erde entdecken. Vieux Fort
Meet at the Hewanorra airport in the Arrival hall. Look for PONANT sign. You will be greeted by our local English-speaking representative off the flight selected by PONANT.
You will be directly transferred to the pier for embarkation. The duration of the transfer is approximately 15 minutes.

Spend a day discovering the heritage of Bequia, with the island’s unparalleled nature as your backdrop.
Start your excursion with a relaxing 20-minute coach journey. Admire the bright tropical colours and vibrant coastal landscapes along the way, before you arrive at Firefly, a centuries-old historic estate. Here, you will savour a meal freshly prepared with locally-grown seasonal produce.
Next, set off to discover Grenadines Wild Sea, a wonderful place, where sea salt is produced in striking buildings converted from an old sugar mill. Your guide will take you through the salt-making process, from harvesting the seawater to obtaining the salt crystals, right through to the ‘clean room’, where the sea salt is cleaned of imperfections and bottled by local staff. Before leaving, you will have the opportunity to taste this salt and visit the shop to purchase some sea salt products.
Continue your adventure to Fort Hamilton, a site steeped in history offering breathtaking views over Admiralty Bay and the surrounding islands. Enjoy a different perspective from Mount Pleasant, the highest point of the island from where Bequia’s coastline and lush hills reveal themselves.
Another stop on your exploration will be the Model Boat Shop, famous for its handmade model vessels. Arriving on site, you will discover the rich maritime history of the island of Bequia as well as the art of shipbuilding.
You will then re-board your coach for the scenic journey back to your ship.

Catamaran & snorkelling
From the pier, board the catamaran and enjoy a journey into the heart of the Caribbean Sea. Bequia is considered by many as one of the most beautiful dive spots in the Caribbean Sea. This archipelago shelters 30 easily accessible sites with crystal-clear waters offering exceptional views: caves and holes, walls and overhangs, hiding beautiful coral formations and marine life.
While sailing the crystalline waters, pass by Moonhole, a private community known for the lifestyle of its inhabitants: completely in harmony with nature. The lodgings are built directly into the landscape and most feature neither windows nor doors. After your discovery of this “Flintstones-esque” village, you will head to Petite Nevis, a region emblematic of whaling. There, you will drop anchor and be able to truly enjoy the seascape or even partake in a bit of snorkelling.
Finally, a 30-minute sail will take you back to your ship.
· This tour involves little walking with some steps. We recommend you wear your swimsuit under your clothes, take a towel from the ship and protect yourself from the sun. The snorkelling equipment is included in this tour. Participants must be able to get on and off the boat and to get into the water using a ladder. Relax at Lower Bay beach
From the pier, board your open-air jeep for a short 15-minute drive to the virgin Lower Bay Beach.
Upon your arrival at this sun-splashed tropical oasis, receive a brief orientation before spending over two hours relaxing at your leisure.
During your visit, enjoy the golden-sand beaches, and swim in the inviting blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. You will relax in a comfortable lounge chair and soak up the warm, tropical sun with the sand between your toes and the warm, tropical breeze in your hair.
Whenever you would like to enjoy some refreshments, complimentary soft drinks and water are available from the bar. From this vantage point, you can also see your ship anchored peacefully in the bay.
After your visit, re-board your open-air jeep and commence the short drive back to the pier.

Wonders of Soufrière
From the pier board your coach for a leisurely drive through the town of Soufrière.
Your first stop will be at the Botanical Gardens and Diamond Baths, where the exuberant vegetation spreads its colour among a profusion of exotic flowers. The garden was a famous spot for Napoléon's wife, Joséphine. Marvel at the tropical plants carefully arranged along the sides of the pathway leading to the waterfall.
Then you will visit the volcano in Soufrière, referred to as the Caribbean's only "drive-in" volcano. This historic site is the result of volcanic eruptions some 300,000 years ago. The Soufrière is a dormant volcano, where you will have the occasion to observe the Sulphur springs. Smell the sulphur as you enter the gates and inhale the natural scents. See the sulphuric fumaroles and steam jet escape from the soil whereas the sulphurous water of the natural baths boil at a temperature which can reaching 338 °F (170 °C).
Sulphur waters having medicinal properties, we invite you to enjoy a mud bath. Recognised to detoxifies the body, helping healing sun burns, eczema, arthritis, sore joints and more, you will live this unique experience.
After a short drive, you will reach Morne Coubaril Estate for a guided tour of this sprawling plateau farm. Producer of cocoa, coffee, coconuts, bananas and an assortment of other tropical products, this working plantation has been in the business of cultivation since the 17th century. It maintains some of the same harvesting and processing practices that have served it in good stead for hundreds of years.
Enjoy a refreshment and relax, before heading back to Soufrière and your ship.

Enjoy a brief escape to an island where time seems to stand still. Take a trip to discover some of the treasures of Marie-Galante, where sea and land meet to form the contours of an island of contrasts and mysteries.
Led by a local guide, you will first discover the northern part of the island and its stunning panoramas: the gentle curves and white beaches of Baie de Saint-Louis, and the secret coves of Vieux-Fort, where the sand disappears in the reflections of an endless horizon...
But the northern part of the island is best known for the series of coves carved into its high limestone cliffs by the relentless onslaught of the waves. Discover Gueule Grand Gouffre, a spectacular natural hole that opens onto an arch, like a portal to infinity. You will be struck by the raw grandeur of this place, immortalising the moment when nature reveals all its splendour.
Further south, the historic remains of Mare au Punch and the Murat plantation will transport you to a time when every stone held secret stories. Finally, you will enter the grounds of the former Murat plantation, its brick walls and its eco-museum full of tales about the island.

Part of the territory of Guadeloupe, Marie-Galante will fascinate, enchant and captivate you. Take in the beautiful scenery before heading to La Maison de l'Indigo, which is developing a project to showcase West Indian plants that can be used for dyeing. Through its work, La Maison de l’Indigo contributes to the conservation of the dyeing plants of Guadeloupe and the Lesser Antilles, including the indigo plant imported from India in the 17th century, and shares its know-how during workshops introducing natural plant dyeing techniques. On a square of cotton fabric, you will experiment with different techniques to make your own creation and experience the indigo dyeing process first hand.

Hike along the Vieux-Fort trail
Escape from it all and take off on an adventure, hiking along the Vieux-Fort trail in Saint-Louis, surrounded by lush, unspoilt nature bathed in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
Imagine an island where time seems to stand still, where the luxuriant vegetation blends harmoniously with the turquoise waters and the deep-rooted traditions of a vibrant Creole culture. Marie-Galante, affectionately called “the island of a hundred mills”, invites you on a unique Caribbean adventure.
Starting in the village of Saint-Louis, the Vieux-Fort trail winds its way between beaches of white sand lined with coconut trees, limestone cliffs overlooking the sea, and sugar cane fields, silent witnesses to a rich past. The tropical scents of hibiscus and vanilla surround you with every step you take, while off to your side the myriad shades of blue in the sea create a breathtaking tableau.
As you continue your hike, you will arrive at Anse Carnot, a beach of white sand where tranquillity reigns supreme. Imagine yourself under a clear blue sky, the soothing sound of waves in the background, the neighbouring islands on the horizon.

Indian River by rowboat

The Indian River is like a mini-Amazon teeming with life. It runs through the centre of the town of Portsmouth, in the North of Dominica. The river was named the Indian River after the settlements of the Kalinago, formally known as Carib Indians, which existed on the upper banks of that river.
The Indian River gushes down the Morne aux Diables Mountain range and gently meanders down to the lowlands of Portsmouth, where it flows gracefully into the Caribbean Sea. Due to its unique formation, being below sea level, the water at the lower areas of the river is brackish, contributing to the unique variety of plants and animal life. The Indian River showcases flora and fauna that are specific only to that area of Dominica. Local fauna includes herons, king fisher, iguanas, and a variety of other birds, many of which are still present after the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Maria. Vegetation continues to grow and is returning in full force.
Experienced boatmen in hand-oared wooden rowboats will take you up the slow-moving river at a leisurely pace, so that you can appreciate the many types of wildlife and plant life along the swampy riverbanks.
See first-hand where scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed. Upriver you can take a short 10-minute walk in the botanical gardens and visit the renowned "Bush Bar"?, where you can try their homemade rum punch.
After your 2-hour adventure, you will reboard your coach for a 15-minute drive back to your ship.

Syndicate Nature trail
From the pier, board your coach for a 45-minute drive to Syndicate, where you will start your hiking tour.
Nestled in the foothills of Dominica’s tallest mountain, Morne Diablotin, and close to the Picard River Gorge, is the Syndicate Nature Trail. Located in the National Park, this lasso trail is home to Dominica’s National Bird — the Sisserou Parrot (Amazona imperialis) — and the Jaco (Amazona arausiaca). The Syndicate area is popular for bird watching as it is a bird sanctuary for some of the 51 species of local and migratory birds that may be found in the park. This area also has a diverse array of flora. It is a key location for research and educational purposes and has lovely view points along a walking path.
The trail looping through the forest will allow you to discover the main interest points and offers a panoramic view on the Dublanc River Valley. If you are particularly lucky, you could see a Jaco or a Sisserou Parrot, the National Bird. The forest is full of other life forms, including four species of hummingbirds.
Upon completion of your short hike, you will proceed to Syndicte Café for refreshments, before embarking on the 45-minute drive back to your ship.
· This tour is an easy 1 ½ hour hike through the forest on muddy trails with some steps. We recommend you wear comfortable hiking shoes, bring an insect repellent and protect yourself from the sun. Chocolate between history & tasting
From the pier, board your coach for a 1 hour, scenic drive to the village of Calibishie and Pointe Baptiste.
Pointe Baptiste cocoa is harvested and gathered from local farmers in an ecological manner. The chocolate factory is a small family business which supports sustainable practices.
Upon arrival, you will be personally welcomed by the family and invited to discover their estate, learn about cocoa farming and the chocolate making process. They will share their knowledge and experience, and show you all the different processes used in making chocolate — from bean to bar.
After your visit, you will taste their fine chocolate bars. They offer many different varieties of chocolate: dark chocolate, ginger, coffee, spice, hot pepper, lemongrass, tangerine, mint and milk chocolate.
Finally, you will reboard your coach for a 1 hour drive back to your ship.

Traditional Kalinago cultural experience
From the pier, board your coach for a one-hour scenic drive to the village of Touna Aute.
The Kalinago, formerly known as Carib Territory or the Carib Reserve, is a specially reserved district of Dominica. Covering an area of 15 km² (5.8 sq mile), it was established to bring together the indigenous Carib people (or Kalinagos), who occupied the West Indies archipelago before the arrival of Europeans.
This is an exciting and educational tour to the Kalinago village of Touna Aute. The village is located on the North Eastern side of the island and is bounded by the Pagua River. Touna Aute is surrounded by spectacular mountain gorges and is home of one of the island’s endemic parrots, called the Jaco parrot or red-necked amazon (Amazonia arausiaca).
On your arrival to the village, a former Kalinago Chief will welcome you and provide a brief historical overview of the Kalinago People and the community. Your visit will continue with a short, guided, walking tour through the residential community to visit a few homes. You will be given the opportunity to discover the sustainable technique of growing Kalinago indigenous foods and making cassava bread.
A light typical buffet of homemade fresh delicacies and drinks will be served at the home of the former Kalinago Chief.
Then, you can have a refreshing moment, swimming in the crystal-clear river.
Finally, you will embark for the one-hour drive back to the ship.
