From the pier, you will board your coach for a 45-minute drive through the countryside to Clifton Hall. This house has been completely restored in 2009 by its present owner, Massimo Franchi, in order to preserve its historical site and allow locals and tourists to discover the history of this old plantation house.
This Great House consists of a two-storey front section, with an arcaded veranda on three sides and a double staircase to a central pedimented porch. The entire house is over 1,250 square metres (13,500 sq ft). The Italian marble on the veranda seems to come from Massa Carrara in Tuscany, Italy, close to Massimo’s family roots. There are three fireplaces and two fire ovens which were revealed during the restoration project.
Your next stop will be the St John’s Parish Church. This classic Gothic church was built to replace a previous structure, which had been destroyed by a hurricane in 1831. Steeped with island history, this historic church boasts a panoramic view of Barbados’ windswept East Coast. Some of the main features include the fact that the churchyard contains the body of Ferdinando Paleologus (descendant of the last Byzantine emperor), and the interior pulpit is carved out of seven different types of wood.
Your last stop will be made at the Codrington College. This Anglican theological college was founded with funds from the bequest of Christopher Codrington. After his death in 1710 left portions of his sugar cane estates to the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts in order to establish a college in Barbados. Construction was started in 1714, and the college was eventually opened on 9 September 1745.

It maintains some of the same harvesting and processing practices that have served it in good stead for hundreds of years.
After your lunch, you will continue to the Botanical Gardens and Diamond Baths, where the exuberant vegetation spreads its colour among a profusion of exotic flowers.
