This Franciscan colonial building stands out for having been built not only on top of the ruins of the P’a’ap ’Jool Cháak Ceremonial Center, known as “La Casa de los Rayos” but for being made with the same stones from the Mayan site. A daring act of amalgamating, which today is intriguing for traveller and fascinating for those passionate about architecture.
Then, you will visit K’inich K’áak ’Mo’, rupestrian but imposing Mayan site that you will have to climb before you can admire the impressive views from its top.
Finally, you will visit four local artisans that work wood, local seeds to turn them into jewellery, and miniature scenes. Then you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant that offers Yucatán regional cuisine before returning to the ship’s pier.

Gain a fascinating insight into the life and times of a traditional Louisiana plantation in the days of the ‘Old South’.
Experience a bygone era and savour aristocratic splendour and traditional southern-style comfort. Oak Alley Plantation is one of Louisiana’s most photographed mansions, which has been brought to life in numerous Hollywood movies, including The Long Hot Summer.
The story of Oak Alley begins with their famous avenue of oak trees, which spread a quarter of a mile towards the river from the Greek revival style mansion. Nowhere else in the Mississippi valley will you find such a spectacular setting. Spared during the Civil War, Oak Alley was sold at auction in 1866. A succession of owners followed until 1925, when Andrew and Josephine Stewart bought the plantation home and its surrounding 1,360 acres. The Stewarts began what was to be the first of the Great River Road plantation restorations.
Enjoy a stroll around the mansion and admire its grand design, combining several styles, the most notable being the 28 classic columns surrounding the house and the sprawling veranda, designed to protect its residents from the fierce summer temperatures. Inside, the house has been restored to its 19th century glory, a noble tribute to those who left their indelible mark on this rich river region.

Panama Canal is one of the most celebrated human achievements on the planet. After the destruction of the first Panama City by pirate Henry Morgan, Casco Antiguo became the second Panama City. The modern, cosmopolitan areas of Panama City add a third layer to this historically rich city. You will get the chance to explore on your own this neighbourhood of Casco Antiguo with its colonial style government buildings, old churches and grand plazas. Casco Antiguo has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
Your tour will continue at the Biomuseo, also called the Gehry’s Museum in honour of its world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. The building is designed to recall the creation of the isthmus of Panama which linked two continents and changed the planet’s biodiversity forever. The event that would change natural history for both continents occurred around three million years ago. Species from both continents mingled as northern animals went south and southern animals went north. The Biomuseo’s 4,000 square metres describe the country’s rich biodiversity.

Next, re-board your coach for the short drive to the downtown area. The City of Merida is the vibrant capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan, which has a rich Mayan and colonial heritage. The city’s focal point is Plaza de la Independencia, bordered by the fortress-like Merida Cathedral and the white limestone Iglesia de la Tercera Orden.
