Diese bezaubernde Stadt mit ihren malerischen Gassen war einst ein strategischer Ort für den Seehandel mit China. Ihr herrliches Architekturerbe erinnert an das traditionelle Japan der Meiji-Ära am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Vom Mojiko Retro Observation Room aus genießen Sie einen außergewöhnlichen Blick, in dem sich Shinto-Schreine und fesselnde Meereslandschaften auf poetische Weise verbinden.
Dann nehmen Sie Kurs auf Südkorea, eine Halbinsel im Japanischen Meer, und Busan, die zweitgrößte Stadt Koreas. In dieser kontrastreichen Stadt können Sie den Hafen und das alte Viertel Chalgachi erkunden.
Zurück in Japan erreichen Sie das emblematische Nagasaki. Sie empfinden dieses beruhigende Gefühl gleich beim ersten Anblick der Burg von Osaka, die sich stolz zwischen majestätischen Wolkenkratzern erhebt. Tomonoura liegt an der Südostspitze der Halbinsel Nunakama, am ruhigen und klaren Wasser des Seto-Binnenmeers. Der Ort ist für seine authentische und etwas verschlafene Atmosphäre berühmt, die ihm einen einzigartigen Charme verleiht. Das malerische Städtchen, in dem die Boote einst anlegten, um auf günstigeren Wind zu warten, ist heute ein Ort der Inspiration für viele Filmemacher und Zeichner. Die zerklüfteten Landschaften, die Kirschblüte und die entspannte Lebensweise, die traditionellen Holzhäuser und der geschützte Hafen aus der Edo-Zeit inspirierten den Zeichner Hayao Miyazaki zu dem Zeichentrickfilm Ponyo.

Das malerische Fischerdorf Mitarai im Osten der Insel Osaki Shimojima am Ufer des Seto-Binnenmeers besticht mit traditionellem Charme und einem authentischen Charakter. Eine Reise ins Edo-Zeitalter, anstelle des Großstadtlärms ist nur das Brummen der Fischerboote zu hören. Die Altstadt wurde 1994 aufgrund der Holzhäuser aus dem 19. Jahrhundert an schmalen Gassen, des großen Deichs und der jahrhundertealten Schreine oder auch der Gangi-Treppen, Steinstrukturen mit Meeresblick, vom japanischen Staat zum Schutzgebiet erklärt.

Mitten im Seto-Binnenmeer vor der Küste der Stadt Kure in der Präfektur Hiroshima erstreckt sich die Insel Shimokamagari. In der Feudalzeit wurde die Insel zum Schauplatz wichtiger diplomatischer Missionen, die für die Zukunft und die Handelsbeziehungen des Reichs von großer Bedeutung waren, insbesondere durch die wiederholten Besuche von Gesandten, die hauptsächlich aus Korea, aber auch aus China und aus Holland kamen. Die Abschriften dieser Begegnungen, die 2017 zum Weltgedächtnisprogramm der UNESCO hinzugefügt wurden, werden im Shotoen-Garten, einem der Wahrzeichen dieser grünen Insel, aufbewahrt. In dem wunderschönen japanischen Garten mit perfekt gepflegten Flächen, geharkten Kieselgärten und majestätischen Gärten, befindet sich ein Komplex des Rantokaku Museums, in dem in vier Ausstellungsräumen die Geschichte der Seefahrt der Insel dargestellt wird.

An der schmalsten Stelle der Kammon-Straße liegt der nördlichste Hafen von Kyushu, eine der vier Hauptinseln Japans. Lange Zeit war Mojiko das Eingangstor zu dieser Insel. Die Boote von damals sind heute verschwunden, doch beim Flanieren durch die malerischen Straßen entdecken Sie ein intaktesarchitektonisches Erbe, welches das traditionelle Japan der Meiji-Periode im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert heraufbeschwört. Vom Mojiko Retro Observation Room herab genießt man ein atemberaubendes Panorama mit Shinto-Schrein und maritimen Landschaften – gleich einer Postkarte des Landes der aufgehenden Sonne.

Mit etwa vier Millionen Einwohnern ist Busan nach der Hauptstadt Seoul die zweitgrößte Metropole Südkoreas. Diese dynamische Hafenstadt im Südosten, die von dem warmen Wasser des Japanischen Meers umspült wird, zeichnet sich durch ein angenehmes und mildes Klima aus. Sie können durch die belebten Straßen schlendern und zwischen Galerien, Museen und buddhistischen Stätten ein einzigartiges Kulturerbe wie den elegant das Meer säumenden Tempel Haedong Yonggungsa entdecken. Auch an herrlichen Stränden und großartigen natürlichen Landschaften fehlt es nicht. Busan besticht durch seine Ruhe ganz wie dessen Einwohner, zu deren Begegnung Sie Gelegenheit haben.

Die berühmte Stadt Nagasaki an der Westküste der Insel Kyushu beeindruckt durch den Reichtum des Kulturerbes. Trotz der Zerstörungen im Jahr 1945 finden Sie hier mehrere alte Stätten, darunter die schöne katholische Oura-Kirche und deren Garten, der Suwa-Schrein oder mehrere buddhistische Tempel. Die Besichtigung des Atombombenmuseums gibt Ihnen einen Eindruck von den Folgen des Atomangriffs. Ein Spaziergang durch den ganz nahen Friedenspark führt Sie zu einer erstaunlichen Sammlung von Kunstgegenständen, die von Ländern der ganzen Welt gestiftet wurden.

Die Inselregion Amakusa, gegenüber der mythischen Insel Kyushu, zwischen dem Yatsushiro- und dem Ariake-Meer, überrascht und fasziniert. Die Inselgruppe besteht aus etwa 100 kleinen, grünen Inseln, die von einem wunderschönen Meeresgrund umgeben sind. Sie war Zufluchtsort für viele Christen, die vor dem Verbot der Ausübung des katholischen Glaubens während der Edo-Zeit im 17. Jahrhundert flohen. Ein christliches Erbe, das in jedem der Dörfer der Region zu finden ist. In Sakitsu, einem charmanten Fischerhafen, können Sie das christliche Erbe kennen lernen, z. B. bei einem Besuch der Kirche, die zum UNESCO-Welterbe gehört.

Der Süden der Insel Kyushu wartet mit einem der außergewöhnlichsten Orte Japans auf: Kagoshima. Denn diese Stadt umfasst nicht nur eine majestätische Bucht mit den irisierenden Farbenspielen der Sonne auf dem Ozean, sondern auch einen aktiven Vulkan. Ein Besuch dieser belebten und fröhlichen Metropole zeigt Ihnen im Übrigen, wie sehr der Vulkan Sakurajima zum Alltag der Einwohner gehört: Infolge der fast täglichen Eruptionen überzieht eine feine Ascheschicht hier und dort die Baudenkmäler der Stadt. Aus dem Boden ragt auch plötzlich der obere Teil eines 3 Meter langen Torii, der vom gigantischen Lavastrom von 1914 "verschluckt" wurde. Day 1 - Osaka/Kyoto
Meet at Osaka International airport. You will be greeted by our local representative off your flight provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent.

Day 2 - Kyoto
Breakfast.
The tour will take you first to take part in Zazen, seated Zen meditation. Zazen is a way of training for monks to obtain enlightenment. It is considered the heart of Zen Buddhist practice. You will sit in the silent room separated from the ordinary life. Also, you will have a chance to experience Japanese tea ceremony. The tea ceremony is one of the most representative forms of Japanese beauty, and participating in a ceremony is one of the best ways to come into contact with the Japanese sense of spirituality.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
Then, you will proceed to Kiyomizu Temple; kiyoi mizu means "pure water" or "spring water". Kiyomizu Temple is noted for its cliff top Main Hall with a broad wooden veranda offering a panoramic view of Kyoto and environs. The veranda is supported on a towering scaffold of wood. The Main Hall has been designated a National Treasure.
Enjoy some time at leisure to purchase souvenirs in the nearby shopping streets.
After your visit, you will return to your hotel to freshen up.
Before your transfer to enjoy a Japanese kaiseki dinner (consisting up of several small courses), you will stop in Gion, one of Kyoto's historic districts, with beautiful traditional houses. It is the city's Geiko district (geisha are known as Geiko in Kyoto).
Enjoy a Kaiseki dinner which is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner, with a Maiko (an apprentice geisha in Kyoto) and a Geiko (a full-fledged artist known as Geisha outside of Japan) who will perform.
You will then be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 3 - Kyoto
Breakfast.
The tour will take you first to Kinkakuji Temple, or the Temple of the Golden Pavilion. It is a temple dedicated to the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the third of the Ashikaga Shoguns, built a retirement estate there in 1398. After his death in 1419, the grounds were turned into a Buddhist temple for the Rinzai sect. The only building to remain standing of Yoshimitsu's estate was the Golden Pavilion. The upper stories are covered in gold leaf and the roof is topped by a bronze phoenix. It was listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1994.
You will then arrive at Ryoan-ji Temple, literally "The Temple of the Dragon at Peace". It belongs to the Myoshin-ji school of the Rinzai branch of Zen Buddhism. The name of the temple evokes its famous 15th-century rock garden, considered one of the masterpieces of Japanese Zen culture. It is the country's most-visited rock garden.
Enjoy a Japanese style lunch served in a local restaurant.
After lunch, you will proceed to Arashiyama region, located on the western outskirts of Kyoto, and the Tenryuji Temple, founded by Ashikaga Takauji in 1339. As a temple related to both the Ashikaga family and Emperor Godaigo, the temple is held in high esteem.
Stroll through the 14th Century landscape garden, featuring Ryumon Falls and a stone bridge. This garden is part of part of the « Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto » and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Legend has it that if one day a fish were to swim up the Ryumon Falls, it would turn into a dragon. Enjoy a stroll through the bamboo groves, a natural beauty that is one of the region's main attractions.
Transfer back to your hotel for a short break to freshen up.
Enjoy a Japanese Shabu-shabu dinner served in a local restaurant. For your meal, a pot of boiling water to cook food will be placed on your table. You will dip thin slices of beef and fresh vegetables into a pot of broth several times for few seconds. "Shabu-shabu" is the sound of the meat swished in the broth.
You will then be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 4 - Kyoto
Breakfast.
You will start your day with an immersion in Japanese tradition. Through the transcendent thumping rhythms, you will discover the art of the taiko, the large drum sculpted from elm or keyaki (zelkova or Japanese elm) wood. The word "taiko" also designates the way of playing the drum, meaning that the instrument and the way of playing its music are thus inextricably linked. Legend has it that the divinity of mirth, Uzume, helped the gods bring light to earth by drawing the goddess of sun, Amaterasu, out of her cave. To do this, she danced on a barrel, thus creating the taiko.
Then, dressed in kimono, a symbol of Japanese culture, you'll enjoy Japanese calligraphy, considered the art of achieving longevity and mastery of body and mind. Buddhist monks use calligraphy as a form of meditation. Dressed in kimono, symbol of Japanese culture.
A lunch will be served in a local restaurant (Japanese menu).
Optional activity (additional supplement): Fushimi-inari Shrine and dinner - limited to 35 participants.

First, you will arrive at Fushimi-Inari Shrine. This is the site where you can see hundreds of vermillion torii gates lining up, making a tunnel, one of the most iconic views in the country. Fushimi-Inari is the head shrine of some 40,000 Inari shrines located throughout the land. It was founded in 711 and is dedicated to five Shinto deities.
Then, you will be transferred to a restaurant for your dinner.

Day 5 - Kyoto/Nara/Osaka
Breakfast before check-out.
To start your day, you will set off to meet the monumental bronze Buddha, who takes centre stage in the heart of the Todai-ji Temple. The building rises majestically in Nara Park. Commissioned in 743 by Emperor Shômu when Nara was the imperial capital of Japan, it took eight years to build and was restored during the Edo era. Standing 47 metres (150 feet) high and with enormous wooden pillars , the ancestral Great Buddha Hall remains the world's largest wooden building, earning its inclusion on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Then, you will continue with a visit of Nara's most celebrated shrine, Kasuga Taisha. Established in 768 and listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, its vermilion-red lacquered buildings form a striking contrast with the surrounding vegetation. Nearly two thousand bronze and stone lanterns line the sanctuary, and a thousand metal lanterns hang along the corridors.
Before lunch, you will stroll through the Isui-en Garden, a traditional Japanese garden created at the end of the 17th century as the private garden of a rich merchant and opened in the middle of the 19th century. Meticulously planned and maintained, it reveals the art of Japanese garden design, seeking balance and harmony while paying homage to the beauty of nature. It consists of two spaces: Minami Shin-en, in the heart of which you will discover a pond, a waterfall and a tea house; and Kita Shin-e, consisting of a bamboo grove, a small stream and a variety of flowering cherry trees and Japanese maples.

You will then be transferred to the port of Osaka to embark on board your ship. It is approximately a one-and-a-half-hour drive.

You will start your exploration with a visit of the Umeda Sky Building. It is one of Japan's most iconic skyscrapers, blending architectural innovation with cultural immersion. Situated in the bustling Umeda district, this 173-meter-tall structure stands out with its bold and futuristic design, composed of two towers connected at the top by a striking observation platform.

You will then proceed to Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine. The entire Sumiyoshi Taisha, dating from the third century and rebuilt from the nineteenth century, classified “National Treasure” is dedicated to the four kami gods, of the sea and sea voyage, agriculture, diplomacy and waka poetry. The Empress Jingu (169-269), known for her conquest of Korea, is also worshiped. In the past, sea merchants would stop in Osaka to pray to Sumiyoshi Taisha, before returning to their ships.

Day 1 - Nagoya/Shima

On the way to Ise Shrine we will stop for a food experience of "Sukiyaki" of Matsuzaka-ushi, one of the best wagyu beefs. Ise Jingu (officially Jingu) includes 125 shinto shrine in an area roughly the size of Paris City. More than 1,500 rituals are conducted yearly to pray for the prosperity of the imperial family, the peace of the world and a huge harvest.
Kotaijingu (Naiku) is the most venerable sanctuary in Japan. Here is a jinja (Shinto Shrine) dedicated to the ancestral kami (Shinto deity) of the imperial family. She was enshrined in Naiku about 2,000 years ago and revered as a guardian of Japan.

Day 2 - Shima/Kumano
After breakfast we head to Kumano
Kumano Kodo refers to a network of pilgrimage trails through the southern Kansai region. The Kodo (old ways) are a key part of the regions World Heritage designation and have been used for over 1,000 years. They are the only pilgrimage routes besides the Camino de Santiago to be designated a World Heritage site.
The pilgrimage routes developed as a way for people to move between the sacred areas on the Kii Peninsula. At the centre of this religious area are the three Kumano shrines: Hongu Taisha, Hayatama Taisha and Nachi Taisha, collectively known as Kumano Sanzan. In addition to linking the shrines , the Kodo pilgrimage trails link the Kumano area to Kyoto, and Ise temple and shrine regions.
Upon arrival in the Kumano area we will see a dramatic rock formation located south along the coast called "Shishiiwa". It is 25m high and looks like a lion with its mouth open in a roar. This is said to be the guardian deity of the Oma-jinja shrine located inland near the mouth of the river.

Day 3 - Kumano
After breakfast we head for "Kumano Kodo Walk, Daimon-zaka to Nachi Falls (Kumano Nachi Taisha and Seiganto-ji temple)".
The Daimon-zaka slope is an ancient stone staircase lined with centuries-old trees, leading from the valley bottom to the base of the Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine complex. This 1 hour walk climbs these worn cobblestone stairs and visits Nachi Taisha, Seiganto-ji temple. From Seiganto-ji we will see Nachi Falls, the tallest in Japan at 133 metres high.

Day 4 - Kumano/Mt Kouya
After breakfast we will depart from the hotel and head to Mt Kouya.
Koyasan is sacred place for Japanese Buddhism and at 48,295 square metres begins with the main hall at 60m east towest and 70m north to south, guarded by various other buildings.
Upon arrival experience Shojin-ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) at Shukubo (temple lodging), then visit the World Heritage site Mt Kouya with a Buddhist monk guide

After breakfast we will visit the World Heritage Niutsushime-shrine.
Niustu Hime Shrine was registered as a World Heritage Site is is rated as being unique because Shintoism rooted in the ancient tradition of nature worship in Japan and Buddhism introduced from India fused in this site. This relationship has continued up to the present over 1,000 years and its cultural landscape still exists.

Day 2 - Nara
After breakfast we set off to meet the monumental bronze Buddha who takes centre stage in the heart of the Toda-jo Temple.
The building rises majestically in Nara Park. Commissioned in 743 by Emperor Shomu when Nara was the imperial capital of Japan, it took eight years to build and was restored during the Edo era.
Standing 47 metres (150 feet) high and with enormous wooden pillars the ancestral Great Buddha Hall remains the worlds largest wooden building, earning its inclusion on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Continue your tour of Nara with a visit to the most celebrated shrine, Kasuga Taisha. Established in 768 and UNESCO listed, its vermilion-red lacquered buildings form a striking contrast with the surrounding vegetation. Nearly two thousand bronze and stone lanterns line the sanctuary, and a thousand metal lanterns hand along the corridors. Enjoy some time at leisure, after your visit we return to your hotel

Day 3 - Nara/Kyoto
Enjoy breakfast before check out
Depart the hotel and head to Kyoto. We will visit Tofuku-ji, a place where you can feel the history and beauty of Kyoto. Tofuku-ji is the head temple of the Tofuku-ji branch of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism, boasting a magnificent temple complex. It was founded in the early Kamakura period by the regent Kujo Michiie. You will be able to enjoy the quintessentially Japanese scenery, including the famous Hojo Garden, designated as a "national site of scenic beauty".
For lunch you will enjoy "Shojin Ryori", a type of buddhist cuisine that excludes meat and fish based on buddhist teachings.
Afterward we will head to the Hotel Granvia Kyoto, excellently located at Kyoto Station.

After breakfast we will depart from the hotel and head to the Gion area and tour the area by rickshaw.

After lunch we head to the histoic UNESCO listed Shimogamo Shrine. Together with Kamigamo Shrine,
Shimogamo Shrine is an ancient shrine revered as a guardian of the imperial palace. The shrines layout preserves the appearance of the Heian period, and the National Treasure main hall features an elegant cypress bark roof. AtShimogamo Shrine we will have a special guided tour. You will observe the process of dressing in a Juni-hitoe (12 layered kimono) still used in the traditional Aoi Matsuri festival, and hear explanations of the ceremonial attire. Afterward enjoy watching an elegant court dance accompanied by live gagaku music.

Day 1 - Kagoshima/Tokyo
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local English-speaking representative.
You will start your day of visit by taking a local ferry on a short crossing to meet one of Japan's most active volcanoes: Sakurajima. Its first known eruption dates back to the year 708, and since 1955 its activity has been almost permanent, closely monitored by the Japanese authorities who set up a state-of-the-art observatory in 1978. Lava flows from fissures in the volcano's flanks gave rise to the peninsula, which is now linked to the island of Kyushu.
You will stop at the Sakurajima Visitor Centre to find out more about the volcano, this formidable embodiment of nature's power. It will reveal the secrets of its eruptions, its history, and its workings. A feed directly from the active Showa crater will alert you to real-time seismic data from Mount Sakurajima.
You will then make a second stop at the observatory, located on a hill on the lava field created by the volcano's eruption in 1946. The view of the impressive Sakurajima volcano and Kinko Bay is breathtaking. Near the crater of the southern peak, you can hear the volcano rumbling.
After this visit, you will take the ferry to head back to the Japanese peninsula.

Enjoy four unforgettable days travelling between Fukuoka and Kagoshima. Escape from cities surrounded by volcanoes on the multi-faceted island with breathtaking landscapes. On the third-largest island in Japan, these green surroundings are the lands of the first Shinto gods and the region of the founding myths of Shintoism, evolving through the influences of its neighbouring countries then that of the West.
Day 1 - Kagoshima
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local English-speaking representative.
You will start your day of visit at The Chiran samurai district that dates back to the Edo period (1603 to 1868). This period put an end to the incessant wars between rival lords that had engulfed Japan for several centuries, earning it the name "Warring States Period". From tea fields as far as the eye can see to the town's authentic historic character, you'll visit a samurai house while witnessing the azaleas in bloom in the landscaped gardens.
You will then be transferred to the Chiran Peace Museum. Built in 1975, the Museum commemorates the sacrifice of the men who joined the Tokko-tai special attack unit during the Second World War. Better known as kamikazes, 439 of these men came from Chiran. You'll be moved by the sight of the Mitsubishi Zero, a fighter plane extracted from the seabed in 1980, the countless letters and personal effects left behind by the young pilots, and the barracks that bear witness to their daily lives there.

After lunch, you will be driven to the Sengan-en Garden. Created by Shimadzu Mitsuhisa in 1658, it has the most beautiful panoramic view over the Sakurajima natural monument. It belongs to the estate of the Shimadzu family, descending from Prince Shimadzu Tadayoshi. The family residence, located in the gardens, continues to pass from generation to generation, and has welcomed eminent guests from Japan and elsewhere. You will stroll around the 5 hectares of calming traditional gardens to discover peaceful ponds, bubbling streams, mysterious shrines, tearooms, a bamboo grove and a mountain hiking trail.
You will then take a local ferry on a short crossing to the Kagoshima Peninsula.
You will stop at Mount Sakurajima, one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. During the powerful eruption in 1914, the volcano stopped being an island when the lava flows filled the strait separating it from the island of Kyushu. A road built along an old lava flow leads to the slopes of the volcano. It is still possible to see the top of a large torii (portal) trapped in the lava there.
You will then take the ferry again to head back to the Japanese peninsula.
Then you will be transferred to the Shiroyama 5* hotel selected by PONANT.

Day 2 - Kagoshima/Kumamoto
After breakfast, you will complete your hotel check-out before being driven to Kagoshima Station to travel to Kumamoto by train.
We recommend that you carry on only what you need for the second day of programme of the Post-cruise programme at Kyushu.
Your piece of luggage dedicated to the cruise will be taken by our local representative and then transported by coach from Kagoshima hotel to Kumamoto hotel to be delivered on the end of the second day of your programme.
You will then take the time to marvel at the Suizenji Gardens, the most beautiful Japanese gardens in Kumamoto. In 1636, the Hosokawa, famous in the region, began the construction of this green space very close to a natural spring providing water of exceptional quality.

Upon arrival at Kumamoto train station, you will take the time to marvel at the Suizenji Gardens, the most beautiful Japanese gardens in Kumamoto. Your next stop will be Kumamoto Castle. A symbol of Japanese post-modernism, Kumamoto Castle stands 30 metres (100 feet) tall between Kamitori and Shimotori, the city centre's main shopping streets. Kumamoto Castle's first fortifications were built in the second half of the 15th century. The keep and its massive walls were erected at the end of the Azuchi-Momoyama era (1558-1600), thus combining the charm of the great castles of Japan with the military architecture of the Edo period.

Day 3 - Kumamoto/Beppu
After breakfast, you will complete your hotel check-out before starting your second day of visit in Kumamoto.
You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in traditional Japan, with a visit to the Seiwa Bunraku puppet theatre. Bunraku is the name given to the art of bringing wooden puppets to life, which has existed for over 300 years. Three puppeteers are needed to operate each puppet. Dressed head to toe in black, they remain silent during the performance, letting a special chanter called a tayu, accompanied by a shamisen player, tell the story and express each puppet's emotion and personality through its voice and facial gestures.

After your lunch, you will make two stops as close as possible to Mount Aso, in the heart of the Aso-Kuju National Park.
You will be awestruck by the grandeur of this still active volcano, which has one of the world's largest calderas. It was formed by several violent eruptions thousands of years ago; visitors flock here from all over Japan to marvel at its splendour.
You will then be transferred to the ANA InterContinental Beppu Resort & Spa 5* hotel selected by PONANT in Beppu.

Day 4 - Beppu/Hita/Tokyo
After breakfast, you will complete your hotel check-out before heading out for the "hells" of Beppu.
Seven mysterious and capricious hot springs with steaming ponds of various colours, bubbling mud pools and gases gushing out of the earth will amaze you. They can reach up to 100 degrees Celsius.
You will then stop at the Hita Festival Museum to immerse yourself in the traditional beauty of Japan. It houses 6 yamaboko floats that parade majestically once a year for the Hita Gion festival and classified as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Asset in 2016. This is Japan's largest matsuri, held annually for almost 900 years. The Gion Matsuri in Hita was established in the 9th Century by the Emperor to appease the gods following major natural disasters.
The 8-metres-high yamaboko chars are treasures handed down over the centuries. The colorful, sumptuous ornamentations preserve all the traditional beauty of Japan.

For your comfort during your train transfer, your main luggage will be separately transported from Kagoshima to Kumamoto. It will be stored at Kumamoto hotel.
