Along the climb to Touril, it is possible to see some species of birds like the Buzzard (Buteo buteo rothschildi), the Rock Dove (Columba livia), Santa Maria Goldcrest (Regulus regulus sanctae mariae) but also you can be surprised by European Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus algirus).

From the pier, board your coach and drive to Quinta de Santa Luzia, a 20-minute drive.
Madeira wine is well-known for being a favourite wine “toasting” option for America’s Founding Fathers. To begin with, the island of Madeira served as a well-known port for various shipping routes going to and from the New World. England had specific legislation in place (“The British Navigation Act”), that ultimately prevented the exportation of wine (and other goods) to British colonies in the New World, unless it came on a British vessel and originated from a British port of call. However, the island of Madeira was exempt from this pesky law and Madeira wine became a “staple” wine on the vessels bound for the American colonies.
Once arriving, you will visit the vineyards of a traditional working Quinta, a unique property that still possesses the characteristics of a farm or estate as they once existed in Madeira. Bought by John Blandy in 1826, the first Blandy to visit Madeira, and the person to have established the now well-known Madeira wine business, this rural oasis is located near the centre of Funchal. This estate houses rich flora gardens and centenary old trees collected from all over the world, as well as a vineyard, whose produce is used for Blandy’s Madeira wine.
You will continue your tour to The Blandy's Wine Lodge. You will enjoy a private guided tour which covers the making of barrels at the Cooperage, ageing in the Canteiro, the transformation of grapes into Madeira wine, satinwood storage vats, and includes a visit to the private museum with unique items from Madeira wine history. The wine lodge was once a 17th-century monastery, it now provides an ageing store for thousands of litres of the highest quality Madeira wines, namely Blandy’s Leacock’s, Cossart Gordon and Miles.
After your guided visit with one of the Madeira Wine guides, a lecture will be given. Finally, to complement this experience, you will enjoy tasting Blandy’s Madeira wines accompanied with some local snacks.
Then, you will re-board your coach and join your ship, a 15-minute drive.
Gesamtpreis inkl. Steuern- und Gebühren : 130 €
From the pier, you will board a vehicle for a 30-minute drive to Porto da Cruz where your buggy will be waiting for you.
Upon arrival in Porto da Cruz, you will have a brief introduction to the tour. You will then step into your buggy and start your adventure. The buggy is the size of a normal 2-seater car, with automatic gear change which makes driving easier and enables you to enjoy the views.
This off-road route will start at the Portela viewpoint, where you will admire the districts of Porto da Cruz and Faial, near the imposing rock of Penha d’Águia. You will continue along the forest road of Serra das Funduras, where you will observe the Laurissilva Forest on the northern slope of the Island. It is considered by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site and included in the European network of sites of Community importance – the Natura 2000 Network. Along the trail, you will discover the endemic flora and fauna of the island of Madeira. The whole environment is truly magical.
At the end of the road, you will come to the “Casa das Funduras”, a country house supporting the forest activities of the area.
Then, you will re-board the first vehicle to return to your ship.

From the pier, board your coach and drive to the Funchal Marina where your semi-rigid speed boat will await you.
You will have a short introduction before starting your adventure. During your sailing, you will discover a number of different marine animals. You will have the opportunity to spot short-finned pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic spotted dolphins and common dolphins. Finally, you will leave your boat and join your ship.
Gesamtpreis inkl. Steuern- und Gebühren : 95 €
Leaving the pier and driving through the main area of Funchal, your first stop will be the Old Town, one of Funchal’s main tourist hotpots, popular for its historical, architectural, gastronomical and artistic aspects.
The picturesque setting of narrow cobblestone streets is lined by aged buildings, some dating back to the 15th century. A new project called “Arte de Portas Abertas” (Art of open doors) is a public art programme aiming to transform Funchal’s old town into a permanent outdoor art gallery by displaying over 200 works of art by guest artists, painted on the doors of Rua de Santa Maria. This colourful project is an attempt to revitalise this part of town and make it more culturally significant for both locals and tourists.
You will continue by foot with a visit to the local market “Mercado dos Lavradores”, where an infinite variety of tropical fruits, vegetables, flowers, as well as regional products can be found. The lower half of the market is dedicated to fish: depending on the season, you may see fresh tuna or black scabbard fish. A visit to the market is always interesting and varied, and you will catch a glimpse of the day to day life of the Madeiran people. Here you will get the opportunity to taste some local fruits in season.
You will reboard your coach for a 15-minute drive to the Sacred Art museum, housed in the old Episcopal Court of Funchal. This building from the 17th century suffered changes throughout time, mainly in the 18th century. It was opened to the public as a museum in 1955. There are two distinct sections within the museum: Flemish and Portuguese Art (paintings, sculptures and jewellery). You will also visit the Tower to enjoy a panoramic view over the city and harbour before returning to your ship.

One of the best ways to see the interior of the island and to get to know Madeira a little better is to walk along one of the footpaths alongside the unique and complex Madeiran irrigation system called levadas. These channels have been dug by hand into the mountainside in the 19th century, to carry water from high up in the mountains down to the fields and villages below.
Enjoy a leisurely walk through the emerald green paradise valley with captivating views over quaint isolated villages and Camacha. The flower lined levada trickles along underneath a canopy of Eucalyptus and Oak trees. Enjoy the abundant flora and patchwork landscape that makes this walk delightful.
You will firstly be taken to Vale Paraiso to begin the first part of the walk - a gentle stroll, mostly on level ground - to Camacha (2,296 ft, 700 m), where a stop will be made for refreshment before doing the second part of the walk to Rochão.
You will then return to the pier by bus.
Gesamtpreis inkl. Steuern- und Gebühren : 50 €
Leaving the pier, the tour takes you out towards the eastern borders of Funchal to the Botanical Gardens, one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens. Situated in the grounds of a former private house, the gardens are host to a profusion of plants and flowers, from all parts of the world, which thrive in the island’s temperate climate. There is a herbarium, as well as terraces and greenhouses with many rare and indigenous plants. The gardens provide an excellent view over Funchal.
After a visit to these gardens, the next stop will be at the cable car station for your ride to the village of Monte. Enjoy the panoramic views over the Valley of João Gomes River before reaching the viewpoint at Barbosas Square in Monte.
The village of Monte (1,677 ft., 550 m), is world known for its many fine properties and gardens, perched on a hill above Funchal; its 18th-century twin-towered-church is a landmark throughout the city. In the centre of the high altar of the Church stands the statue of Our Lady of Monte credited with being the source of many miracles, also inside you will find the tomb of Charles I, last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, who died in exile in Madeira in 1922. From here, you return back to port.

This tour will take you to the Palace of the Marquis of Alorna, otherwise known as Fronteira Palace, a unique jewel dating back to the 17th century.
The Fronteira Palace is one of the most beautiful 17th century monuments in Lisbon. It holds the largest collection of 17th century “azulejos” (Portuguese tiles), preserved in situ. It was built around 1670 and was used as a second residence and hunting lodge by the Mascarenhas family, before the 1755 Great Lisbon earthquake. The family moved to Benfica in 1755, after their primary residence in Lisbon was destroyed in the disaster.
The palace is an ancient manor house preserved in a form very close to its original design. Classified as a national monument, it is also the home of the descendants of Dom João de Mascarenhas, the first Marquis of Fronteira, who ordered the construction of the palace. The history of the site serves as just one of the many charms of the place, giving it a human touch and contributing to its special atmosphere. It's still owned by the family, one of the most important noble families in Portugal: the House of Alorna and Fronteira.

Day 2 – Ponta Delgada/Sete Cidades
Departure in 4X4 from the hotel towards the western part of the island, driving on the mountain road and passing via the Pico do Carvão viewpoint.
A short stop to admire the view over the narrowest part of the island. This landscape was formed millions of years ago by the eruption of 290 small volcanoes. The journey goes on to Mata do Canário forest park to take the trail up to one of the most impressive viewpoints over Sete Cidades crater, which is home to the lake and the small village. A scenic drive along the crater rim and then on to the village of Sete Cidades, which paints a real portrait of the island’s contemporary rural way of life.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
The next drive is to the protected geosite of Ponta da Ferraria, located on the coastline. This is a fajã, a unique phenomenon called a pseudocrater, which can be found in very few places around the world apart from the Azores. It is very popular among the locals for its natural pool, in which thermal water merges with the ocean, creating a bathing site with therapeutic water springs that has been used since the fifteenth century. Here you can relax with a bath or a guided meditation before heading back to the hotel in Ponta Delgada.
Return to the hotel. End of the day and dinner are at leisure.
Day 3 – Ponta Delgada/Furnas
After breakfast and check-out, you will leave the hotel in the morning to explore the Furnas Valley, which is famous for its hot springs and thermal baths that make it one of the world’s biggest geothermal sites.
First, you will be taken to Ribeira Grande. This lovely town reveals a play on colours that stretches between the white masonry and basalt and ignimbrite stonework. This contrast is visible in churches, such as the Nossa Senhora da Estrela, with its monumental staircase and singular black bell tower. Enjoy a short visit to the charming historic centre, whose narrow streets and municipal garden are lined with fine examples of urban architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries. You will then continue your drive, to the tea plantations, the only commercial ones in Europe.
Continue to the tea plantations, the only commercial ones in Europe. After visiting the factory and tasting a sample of the local produce, you will drive to Lagoa das Furnas. The locals cook the typical Cozido das Caldeiras, a mixed meat and vegetable stew, using the volcanic heat here. This delicacy will be your lunch!
In the afternoon, you will visit Terra Nostra Garden, an iconic place on Sao Miguel whose origins date back to 1775 when Thomas Hickling, the US Consul at the time, decided to create his summer residence. Since the 19th century, the garden has undergone several developments carried out by its successive owners. Today it is home to more than 2,000 different trees and plants from all over the world.
