From the pier, board your coach to Lucca, 45-minute drive. Lucca is the most civilized of Tuscany's cities, a stately grid of Roman roads snug behind a mammoth belt of tree-topped battlements. It is home to Puccini and hosts an elegant landscape of churches and palaces, delicate facades, and Art Nouveau shop fronts on wide promenades.
You will first visit the highlights of Lucca with your local guide. The walls are what make Lucca, and they comprise a city park more than 2,5 miles (4 km) long but only about 59 feet (18 m) wide, filled with avenues of plane, chestnut, and ilex trees planted by Marie-Louise Bourbon in the 19th century.
Near the north end of Via Fillungo, you will admire a series of houses which were built during the Middle Ages into the remains of a 1st or 2nd century AD. Roman amphitheatre, which had been used for centuries as a quarry for raw materials to raise the city's churches and palaces. The outline of the stadium was still visible in the 1930s when Duke Ludovico asked local architect Lorenzo Nottolini to rearrange the space and bring out the ancient form better.
Then, you will discover Piazza San Michele, the centre of the town, crammed with cafés and shops and the church of San Michele in Foro, as beautiful as a 12th century Romanesque church. It boasts a Pisan-inspired façade of blind arches with lozenges and colonnaded arcades. It is smack in the centre of town - on top of the ancient Roman forum, in fact, hence the name. Finally, you will enjoy the outside view of the façade of Lucca's Duomo is an excellent and eye-catching example of the Pisan-Lucchese Romanesque school of architecture.
After enjoying a fine lunch at Buca di Sant'Antonio, you will get back to your coach and take the 30-minute drive to Pisa.
Since the beginning of tourism in Mediterranean region, Pisa has been known for just one thing – the Leaning Tower – a freakishly beautiful building whose impact no amount of prior knowledge can blunt. Yet it is just a single component of the city’s amazing religious core – the Campo dei Miracoli – where the Duomo, Baptistery and Camposanto complete an unrivalled quartet of medieval masterpieces. Here, you will enjoy a walking tour in the beautiful city with your local guide before getting back to your coach and join your ship.

It is home to Puccini and hosts an elegant landscape of churches and palaces, delicate facades, and Art Nouveau shop fronts on wide promenades.
Lucca is enclosed by massive red brick walls, which help to give the city its special character by shutting out traffic and the modern world. Within these walls, Lucca is a peaceful city of narrow lanes that has managed to preserve its ancient Roman street plan. The walls are what make Lucca, and they comprise a city park more than 2 ½ miles (4 km) long but only about 59 feet (18 m) wide, filled with avenues of plane, chestnut, and ilex trees planted by Marie-Louise Bourbon in the 19th century.

Finally, you will enjoy an exterior view of the façade of Lucca's Duomo, an excellent and eye-catching example of the Pisan-Lucchese Romanesque school of architecture.
Next, you will head to the Piazza Anfiteatro, formerly the ancient Roman Amphitheatre. Today, it is enclosed by medieval houses that were built up against the walls of the amphitheatre. Its perfectly preserved shape is a reminder that Lucca was founded by the Romans in 180 B.C. The outline of the stadium was still visible in the 1930s when Duke Ludovico asked local architect Lorenzo Nottolini to rearrange the space.
From here, you will continue to the Church of San Frediano (exterior visit), which is adorned with a striking façade and a 13th-century mosaic. The guided portion of your visit concludes at Via Fillungo, Lucca’s principal shopping street, which winds its way through the heart of the city towards the Roman Amphitheatre.
Following your walking tour, enjoy some free time for exploring the area on your own and browsing the shops at your leisure before re-boarding your coach for the return drive to the port.

From the pier, you will meet your local guide and start a walking tour of Portoferraio.
Portoferraio was founded by the Romans (with the name of Fabricia) on a pre-existing Tuscan settlement. After the fall of Rome, the town was destroyed by the buccaneers and rebuilt in the 7th century under the name of Ferraia. In 1442 the Saracens destroyed it and in the 16th century, the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I of the Medici Family ordered the construction of imposing fortifications. The town was named Cosmopoli after him. Finally, under the reign of the Lorena Family, the name Ferraia was reestabilished and changed into the present name of Portoferraio.
Portoferraio is today the main town of Elba island. Its historical centre is a labyrinth of small alleys and many are the monuments and churches not to be missed. After a long uphill walk you will have beautiful views of the port. You will also see Piazza della Repubblica, where you will admire the Town Hall, the former Biscotteria Palace, where ship-biscuits were made for the crews of galleys. A stroll along the promenade with nice shops and sailing boats is also included.

After disembarking, you will board your coach to a scenic 90-minute drive to Pompeii, located at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Founded in the 6th century BC, it counted approximately 20,000 inhabitants in 79. That year, a volcanic eruption completely buried the flourishing cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabies. Forgotten during 1,600 years, it was rediscovered by chance to become today one of the florets of archaeology and an extraordinary testimony of the Roman Empire.
You will enter the site by the Porta Marina. Similar to a bastion, facing west, it is the most imposing of the seven gates of Pompeii together with Porta Ercolano. The ring of walls, built in the 6th century BC and still visible today, is over 3,200-metre long. Arriving inside the city, you will first discover the administrative buildings located on the main square. The more recent has kept its marble floor, and its eastern hall might have been the meeting room for the decurions (administrators), and its central hall might be used for the tabularium (legal archive).
Next, opening onto via dell’Abbondanza, is the Comitium, an open-air hall where the populus was summoned to exercise their political-administrative rights. It held the administrators, who presided over the assemblies and supervised the voting procedures. You will proceed by the Macellum. The building, which was the city's main market, dates from the 2nd century BC and underwent subsequent renovations. You will also admire the Basilica dedicated to administering justice and for business negotiations. Passing by the merchant streets you will cross the Forum baths or public baths that where divided in different sections. They were inexpensive and heavily used: bath time was apparently in the early afternoon. You will enter some remarkable villas, modest homes and explore ancient baths, temples, theatres, markets and forum.
After your visit, enjoy a refreshment and a slice of pizza. Then, you will re-board your coach and return to your ship.

From Amalfi harbour, you will reach Ravello by coach after a 40-minute drive following the narrow main road which stretches along the side of rocky cliffs, overlooking the sea. Every twist and turn of the road offer new and breathtaking views on the world famous Sorrentine peninsula. Ravello is a small city of ancient origins which faces a range of hills overlooking the clear blue sea of the gulf of Salerno. The beauties of this area have inspired poets, painters and musicians during its millennia-old history.
On arrival you will be visiting Villa Rufolo where Wagner stayed. The magical beauties of its gardens and the architecture of the cloisters inspired him for “the Garden of Klingsor”. You will also admire the numerous arches and antique towers as well as the Cathedral, outside visit only.

From the pier, you will board a motor launch to reach the astonishing and colourful Grotta dello Smeraldo (the Emerald grotto) not far from the Amalfi centre. Enjoy the beauty of the Amalfi coast by cruising to the grotto and once there, on board local boats, experience the emotion of such a suggestive natural spot with its shining emerald green shades.
Discovered in 1932, explorers found a unique cave formation stretching 30 metres (100 feet) high by 60 metres (200 feet) wide, hidden along the coastline. The most fascinating aspect of this cave is the underwater entrance 12 metres (30 feet) deep that allows the sunlight to enter the cave, creating a luminescent Emerald Glow.
At the end of the visit, your launch will drive you back to Amalfi to drop you off in the main square where you will visit the impressive Cathedral of the town and spend some time to browse around and taste local specialities like the Limoncello Liquor.

There used to be three craters, one of which, as a result of erosion by the sea, presents an interesting cross-section of a volcanic cone, with lava flows and stratifications of pyroclastic material.
Upon your arrival in Vulcano, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a short visit of the village and stroll through town on your own to buy some souvenirs.
During your boat trip back to the pier, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy a swim, jumping in the sea directly from the boat.

From the pier, embark your coach and start your panoramic drive through the historical centre of Palermo, before reaching the coastal highway which will bring you to the charming fishing village of Cefalù.
Cefalù is a haven of tranquillity, a refuge and a sanctuary of religious inspiration. A city of facets, levels, and epochs. The name, which translated means "head", probably referring to the shape of the hill and huge rock crowned with an ancient castle, rising above the town, was given to the town by the Greeks. Cefalù's origins are surrounded in mystery.
Legend tells that Roger II, the well-known Norman sovereign of Sicily, in gratitude to God for sparing his life in a violent storm at sea, commissioned the building of a Cathedral at Cefalù, where he landed after the tempest.
Its characteristics, as well as its position, so close to the sea, make it something of a fortress from the outside as much as it is a church on the inside. The Cathedral was begun on a site in which Roman buildings had already existed. However, after unforeseen circumstances, and changes in construction plans, the original building was never finished. The remains of this building project are three roofs which testify to past ages and building techniques. Inside the cathedral, you will see the paintings and gold Byzantine mosaics the Cathedral is known for.
Continue your walking tour with a photo-stop at the medieval wash-house and the Osterio Magno. Per the tradition, it was built by Roger II as his mansion, but it probably dates from the 14th century. Traces of the medieval tower and decoration can be seen. Excavations held in the interior have showed the presence of ancient edifices and ceramics.
Before returning to the ship, a refreshment will be served and you will have some free time to explore Cefalù on your own and browse the quaint boutiques.

Dive into the fascinating history of Palermo and Monreale, two emblematic Sicilian towns, and explore their unique cultural, religious and artistic heritage.
The adventure will begin in Palermo. Aboard your bus, you will discover its pretty and lively streets as well as its architecture, which lies at the crossroads of Byzantine, Arab and Normand influences, bearing witness to its multicultural past. You will visit the famous Palatine Chapel, a 12th-century masterpiece, located in the Norman Palace, today seat of the Sicilian Regional Assembly. Its golden mosaics, its ornamental candelabra and its finely sculpted ceiling perfectly illustrate the Arab-Norman style that is so emblematic of Sicily.
You will then leave for Monreale, 8 kilometres (5 miles) from Palermo, to discover its cathedral, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Completed in 1174 by William the Good, it is considered to be the most beautiful Norman church in Italy. While the austere exterior is reminiscent of a fortress, the interior reveals splendid Byzantine mosaics, coloured marble and granite columns. You will then explore the cloister of the former Benedictine Monastery, where a majestic arcade supported by 216 decorated columns surrounds the courtyard. To finish your escapade, you will be able to visit Monreale by yourself.
• We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting the religious sites. This excursion, which includes steps and is on foot, is not recommended for persons with reduced mobility or in a wheelchair.

From the pier, you will drive by coach to Erice, which is about half an hour away by road. Erice is a superb medieval village perched on a hill with spectacular views over the sea and Trapani.
Although this spot was occupied for millennia, it really developed in 831 with the arrival of the Arabs. In the Middle Ages, it reached its peak under the Normans. Called Monte San Giuliano until 1934, in Antiquity this place was dedicated to Venus and there are still traces of the ancient city walls. You will be stepping back in time to explore on foot this fascinating medieval city, with its fortress and watchtowers.
Erice still has former residences of Trapani’s wealthy families who would decamp here for the summer. Their influence can be seen in the city’s towers and fortifications and the English gardens.
After seeing the sights, you are free to wander around the streets at your leisure.
And finally, you will be given a panoramic tour of the salt flats and Trapani before boarding your ship.

From the pier, you will be taken by coach for the short drive to the town of Trapani, passing the Ligny Tower on the way, before heading to Segesta, an hour’s drive away (with photo stop) via Saline.
Called Egesta by the Greeks and Segesta by the Romans, it was one of the most advanced cities of the ancient Elymian civilisation along with Eryx (Erice) and Entella. The city was probably built between the 5th and 4th century BC, and lies on a wide plateau in a protected position between the two summits of Mount Barbaro. Today it is an important architectural site dating back to the Elmini people who originally came from Anatoly.
You will begin your tour at the Temple of Segesta, a Doric temple built from local limestone on a hill outside the ancient town. Its architecture is typical of the late 5th century. There is evidence to suggest that the temple was not completed, as the columns are unfluted and the substructure still has the bosses or nobs used for transport which should have been removed. You will then visit the theatre which dates back to the middle of the 3rd century and accommodated up to 3,000 spectators. It is on a slope at an altitude of 440 m overlooking the temple.
You will then return to the port at Trapani to board your ship.

From the pier, you will board your coach and drive towards the "via del sale" (the salt road) with the famous "saline" and windmills, where a brief photo stop will be made. During the 1-hour coach ride, you will enjoy a panoramic view of Mozia Island. Due to its location near the coast, and its role as an important trade city, Mozia was one of the most important Phoenician and Carthaginian settlements in the Mediterranean area.
You will arrive in Marsala, situated on Cape Boeo, which is the westernmost point of the island. Upon your arrival, a brief walking tour will give you the opportunity to discover this ancient city, founded by the Phoenicians refugees after the destruction of Mozia by the hand of Dionysius I of Syracuse. The history of Marsala is multicultural indeed, as the region was subjugated by the Romans, the Vandals and the Byzantines. Then, when the city felt to the Muslims, they called it Marsa-Allah (Port of Allah). And, when the Normans took Marsala in the 1072, they rebuilt the castle and constructed churches and convents.
The town of Marsala is also famous for a dessert wine, that it is named after it. For this reason, your next stop will be made at a local winery, the “Cantine Florio”, where, after visiting the wine cellars, you will have the opportunity to taste the Sicilian specialties such as arancini (rice balls), Sicilian bread and pizza, cannoli, accompanied by different local wines including, the Marsala.
After this tasty experience, you will head to the "Torre di Ligny" one of the most beautiful panoramic points of the city. It is a massive quadrangular-plan tower built in 1671 by Prince di Ligny. From here, you will see the Egadi Islands and two little islands, "Lazzaretto" and "Torre della Colombaia".
You will finally re-board your coach and drive back to Trapani.

Discover Cagliari and the archaeological site of Nora, located on a promontory of the Capo di Pula peninsular.
Not just the gateway to Sardinia’s most beautiful coastlines – the Costa Rei, Costa del Sud and Costa Smeralda – Cagliari itself is also well worth a visit. Its rich baroque architecture and its lively districts are reminders of this island’s warm soul, while the Bastione di San Remy, a monumental fort perched on the old town, offers a stunning panorama.
In Nora, a former trading post founded by the Phoenicians, the vestiges of several civilisations offer a wonderful dive into the past. First Carthaginian, then Roman, Nora declined and disappeared around the 8th century. From the old town, you can still see, among many archaeological marvels, Carthaginian warehouses, a Carthaginian-Roman temple, large thermal baths with splendid mosaics and an almost intact theatre, dating from Roman times.
The water-supply system is particularly interesting, with large underwater pipes: their mosaics and very fine tesserae form rich geometric patterns. The sea around Nora still covers the part of the town that sank during an earthquake, but the former piers can still be recognised. After the visit, you will have a snack in a local café.

From the pier, board your coach and start with a short panoramic drive of Cagliari. Your first stop will be made in front of the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria. Then you will continue to Monte Urpinu from where you will enjoy a panoramic view over the capital of Sardinia.
Then, you will drive to San Sperate, a 30-minute drive. Situated just near Cagliari, San Sperate is one of the most important Sardinia agricultural centres. As many remains testify, San Sperate has a very ancient history. The famous "Maschera Ghignante" (sneering mask) has been found in 1976, during one of the first archaeological excavations.
In 1967, San Sperate became a Museum-village and it now hosts many works of important Italian and foreign artists, as well as cultural meetings, theatre exhibitions and festivals. The idea of making San Sperate a Museum-village was born in 1966 by Pinuccio Sciola, who painted all the walls in white on the occasion of the Corpus Christi feast and invited several artists to paint their work on the walls of the village.
You will meet your local guide and have a guided visit of the historical centre of the village, where you can admire a large number of "Murales" and sculptures meant to embellish the village. Your walking tour will also include the garden laboratory of the world-famous sculptor Pinuccio Sciola, who promoted the murals at San Sperate and created the sound stones, both an artistic creation and a musical instrument, unique in its kind.
After enjoying a Sardinian snack, you will board your coach and drive to Cagliari, a 30-minute drive.

Start your visit to Bonifacio aboard a mini-train, passing through the Bosco district, where you will see the Saint-François convent and the impressive marine cemetery, a fascinating mix of architectural styles. On a clear day, enjoy a breathtaking view of Sardinia, the Italian island located just across the sea from Corsica.
Continue your discovery as you pass by Saint-Dominique Church, a rare example of Gothic architecture in Corsica, built in 1270, most likely by the Templars. After this introduction by mini-train, explore the upper town on foot, strolling through narrow streets lined with tall granite houses. You will pass by Sainte-Marie-Majeure Church, dating from the 14th century, which combines Romanesque and Baroque styles.
Delve deeper into the old town and discover Two Emperors Street, where Napoleon Bonaparte and Charles V once stayed, the Place des Armes, the Jardins des Vestiges, and the old market, which offers a spectacular viewpoint over the 230 ft (70 m) high cliffs on which Bonifacio was built. From the pier, board your local coach for the panoramic drive to Sartène, an archetypal Corsican village.
The scenic drive takes you along the rugged west coast, highlighting the two distinctive aspects of the island’s geography: the coastline with its crystal-clear waters and the mountains with their huge granite boulders and dense vegetation. Along the tortuously winding road through the maquis, you will be stunned by the superb views of the coast and the granite rocks resembling animals, like the Lion of Roccapina.
Sartène is built on a promontory on the side of a mountain, and some of the houses which seem to be clinging on to the slope have been dug directly into the rock. For hundreds of years Sartène was the scene of numerous vendettas, attacks by pirates or battles against the occupying Genovese in the Middle Ages. You will visit the Church of St Marie which houses the balaclavas, chains and cross used by the penitents during the famous Good Friday procession. You will then be at leisure to wander round the narrow picturesque streets of the village.
Then, board your local coach and return to Bonifacio. En route, enjoy a photo stop in Roccapina.

Then, you will board your coach for a 2-hour drive to Marina di Campo. On the way, you’ll enjoy a panoramic drive, passing by Chiessi, Fetovaia and Cavoli, including a photo stop.
Upon your arrival, you will visit Marina di Campo. This old fishing town is highlighted by approximately 1.2 miles (about 2 km) of pinewood-lined golden beaches, a beautiful promenade along the sea and splendid accommodations, making it among the most popular tourist centres on the island. You will then re-board your coach for the approximately 30-minute drive back to the port.

You will see the rocks rising out of the sea like strange mythological creatures and the small boats in sheltered sandy coves that look like brightly coloured toys from up above.
You will finally drive back to Amalfi, where you will enjoy a soft drink or an ice cream at a local bar.

Lipari is the biggest and most populated of the Aeolian Islands. Famous since olden times for its obsidian quarries, Lipari is linked to Sicily by very regular ferry and hydroplane services. The town and port are dominated by a citadel, testimony to the archipelago’s strategic importance in the past.
From the ship, you will disembark by tender in Marina Corta pier, where you will meet your guide and board the private motorboat.
You will start your sail with beautiful scenery, passing first by the Lipari coast, and then proceeding on the west coast of Vulcano to see the Faraglioni, the Grotta del Cavallo, the Spiaggia di Ponente and Vulcanello.
You will then arrive on Vulcano Island where you will discover its impressive plateau. The vastest of the Aeolian Islands, formed by lava, banks of tuff and quaternary deposits; it is furrowed by deep valleys and surrounded by hills that descend towards the sea. On the highest slopes of the island, the panorama is picturesque and wild.

Enjoy an escapade in the heart of authentic Palermo, to discover its bustling traditional market and its emblematic religious sites.
Your visit will begin with a panoramic bus tour of the city centre. The treasures of this Sicilian city will appear before your very eyes: the Palazzo dei Normanni, a relic marked by several civilisations; the cathedral built by the Anglo-Norman archbishop of Palermo in the 12th century; Porta Felice; Corso Vittorio Emanuele; Piazza Marina; the Garibaldi Gardens, and much more.
You will then stop off at the Al Capo market, a vibrant spot in Palermo where the lively atmosphere will immerse you in a whirlwind of colours, smells and flavours. Take time to browse the stalls in search of delicious produce, before continuing your discovery with a visit to St. Catherine's Church. Built between 1566 and 1596, this church stands out for its unique architecture blending different styles and periods, making it one of the richest in Palermo. You will also have the opportunity to explore the adjacent convent, discover the cells where the nuns once lived and, weather permitting, go up to the building's terrace for a spectacular view of the city.

Walk through the Porte de Gênes, once the only entrance to the citadel, then reach Saint-Roch Chapel, built on the site where the last victim of the 1528 plague succumbed. From here, take the Hundred Steps Stairway leading back down to the marina, passing by Saint-Erasmus Church, dedicated to fishermen and sailors.
During your visit to the upper town, enjoy a tasting at the Galerie des Ducs, where you will sample Corsican specialties accompanied by a glass of wine, while admiring a spectacular view of the Bonifacio cliffs.
From this point, you may either return to the ship with your group or continue exploring the town at your own pace.
