PONANT Aktivitäten
Kid Explorers
PONANT has joined forces with the Maud Fontenoy Foundation to run its Kid Explorers children’s club.
As part of its commitment to safeguarding the oceans, during your cruise PONANT offers an activity programme for children aged 4 to 13 years old to familiarise them with issues related to protecting our oceans. We have special educational kits, activity sheets and themed videos all provided by the Foundation.
Every day a team of activity leaders organises creative activities (crafts, painting, etc.), fun educational workshops, board games, introduction to meditation sessions and more, as well as activities specific to the cruise itinerary and number of participants. There are also activities ashore to prolong the experience for your Kid Explorers such as walks, treasure hunts and swimming.
The activity programme is available every day up to 9.30pm (and as an exception until 10.30pm on gala evenings). To best meet your needs, the schedule is adapted to fit in with your cruise programme. For more information, contact the team organising the activities.
Activity schedules are posted daily in the logbook.
Every child receives a welcome kit with gifts enclosed.
-------------------------------
Activities will depend on the number and age of the children who register and the weather conditions.
Parents or guardians must read the ‘General information on the PONANT Kid Explorers Club’ and sign a form authorising the Kid Explorers Club to look after their child on board and for outings ashore.
Maud Fontenoy Foundation
Since 2008, the Maud Fontenoy Foundation has been operating in France and internationally to protect our oceans. We organise educational activities focused on the environment for the younger generation and general public, with support from scientific partners and the French Ministry of National Education. The latter has made us responsible for its Sea Education programme and relaunch of the Sea Classes initiative. Our aim is both ecological and social: to protect the ocean and save people. We start from a strong principle that protecting the environment, particularly the ocean, is a humanitarian issue that affects all mankind, without exception. For us, the oceans are a powerful force, a potential for the future. Every year, 700,000 children benefit from our programmes.

From the pier, board your coach for a 10-minute drive to the famous Byzantine Church of Ekatontapyliani. Also named the “Lady of the hundred doors”, this church is one of the greatest early Christian monuments in Greece. The name was a creation of the 17th century scholars who wanted to compare the splendour of the church to that of the Temple of Hundred Doors (Ekatonpylon) in ancient Thebes of Egypt.
Following your visit, you will board your coach for a panoramic drive to the traditional village of Lefkes.
Lefkes is the most mountainous village of Paros and the most verdurous one. It was the first capital of Paros. The village is located under a pineforest on the hill. Follow your guide on a walking tour through its narrow streets with white walls. See the old wash-houses that are still used by some housewives, the House of Literature, the picturesque Ramnos, a street with taverns and other stores and the wonderful view: the sea and Naxos in the background. The houses are built amphitheatrical. The first residents were immigrants that came from Crete and Naoussa and locals who chose to build their village on the mountain, in order to be protected from the pirates. The town hall was built with the famous marble of Paros.
Once leaving Lefkes, you will head for the picturesque village of Naoussa. The port of Naoussa is protected by a separate fortification, the Venetian Castle. The fortification was built in the 15th century by the dynasty of Sommaripas and emerges from the sea behind the small harbour with the traditional fish boats. Today, although half sunk, the castle offers a very impressive sight worth seeing.
Before rejoining your ship, you will have some free time to stroll around its narrow streets, little squares and traditional whitewashed houses.
Gesamtpreis inkl. Steuern- und Gebühren : 65 €

The charm of Hydra town certainly lies in her rich history, port and waterfront unspoiled by motorised vehicles. This island offers a rugged charm and many scenes to discover.
From the pier, follow your guide on a walking exploration through the island's historical landmarks. Your first stop will be the Hydra Museum - Historical Archives where you may admire 19th century paintings of considerable artistic value as well as rich documental and photographic material detailing the long maritime tradition and history of the island.

For many centuries, while naval travel was the only means for transportation, Kythira possessed a strategic location. Since ancient times, until the mid-19th century, Kythira had been a crossroads of merchants, sailors, and conquerors. As such, it has had a long and varied history and has been influenced by many civilisations and cultures.
Board your coach and drive west to the area of Myrtidia, where you will visit the monastery of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, the largest monastery on Kythira Island. It is built on a natural rocky opening among many myrtles and houses. As the icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, it’s the island’s most precious relic and the symbol of the Kytherians. According to tradition, the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary was found here by a shepherd, guided by a vision, in the 14th century. The church is small, built in the style of a three-nave basilica and one can admire icons from the 17th and 18th century.
After your visit at the Monastery, board your coach for a drive to the village of Mylopotamos. It was named Mylopotamos, literally translating as “river of mills” because of the 22 watermills built along a small stream in order to grind wheat. Today, 21 of the mills are in ruins and one (Phill’s watermill) is in working condition. The gorge where the 22 mills are found starts from a magnificent waterfall named "Fonisa", (female killer), which is the only one on the island. The stream above the waterfall springs from the mountain in the middle of town, by the "platea" square, during the summer. Refreshments will be served at a traditional cafe in the main square of the village, under the plane trees.
You will then board your coach again for a drive to Chora, the picturesque capital of the island. Together with your guide, you will walk through its narrow streets and have the chance to admire its whitewashed houses, old mansions and Venetian buildings. You will also visit its Venetian castle, built in 1503, which is called the “Eye of Crete” due to its strategic position overlooking the Ionian, Aegean and Cretan Seas. From the Castle, the view to the sea and Chora is captivating. Inside the Castle, the Historical Archives of Kythira are housed. In the surrounding area of Mesa Vourgo, there are some preserved churches such as Panagia Orfani, Agios Ioannis and Agia Triada. A visit will also be made to the new Archaeological Museum of Chora, which contains mostly findings of the Prehistoric and Classical eras from the island. The most significant finding was the marble lion, dating from the 6th century BC – probably from Paleokastro – which was found in the early 19th century.
Following your visit, you may either return by coach to the pier or stay longer in Chora and return later on your own.
Gesamtpreis inkl. Steuern- und Gebühren : 90 €
From the pier, board your coach for a 75-minute drive through the fertile land of Messinia.
Second largest state of the Peloponnese in ancient times, Messinia was coveted by the Spartans who waged three wars of conquest before taking control of it. This forced the Messinians to emigrate to Italy where they founded the city of Messina. This city was the 4th century BC fortified capital of the ancient Messenians, noted in its times for its impressive military architecture. The fortified city, with its 5.5 miles (9 km) enclosing wall, was part of the strategic barrier against Sparta organized by Epaminondas. Messini was the southernmost of a chain of walled cities including Megalopolis and Argos.
Your first stop will be made at the Arcadian Gate consisting of two sets of gates separated by a rather unusual round courtyard. The inner gate has a gigantic monolithic lintel, now half fallen. The outer gate is composed by two towers (of which only the foundations remain), from which attackers were assaulted with hurled javelins or arrows.
Your next visit will be the Archaeological Museum located between the Arkadia Gate and the village of Mavromati, which displays fragments from the architecture of the site. You can admire sculptures including the marble statue of the goddess Artemis Lafrias, restored from fragments, and the six statues of the priestesses from the temple of Artemis Orthia; small bronze objects and a model of the Asklipion.
After the museum, you will proceed on foot to the Archaeological site where you will visit well-preserved ruins like the Temple of Asklipion, the Agora, the Stadium, the Gymnasium and the Ancient Theatre.
After the visit of this site, you will board your coach and return to the ship, 75-minute drive.
Gesamtpreis inkl. Steuern- und Gebühren : 80 €
From the pier, board your coach for a 40-minute drive through the verdant landscape of western Peloponnese to the ruins of King Nestor's Palace.
Once arriving, you will visit the room where the Queen took her bath as well as the remains of what must have been a magnificent throne room with a huge hearth in its middle. Most of the roofs and walls were constructed out of wood and stone, but today only the stone remains.
After your visit to Nestor's Palace, you will proceed to Methoni village. Methoni has been identified as the city Pedasus, that Homer mentions under the name "Ampeloessa" (of vine leaves), as the last of the seven "evnaiomena ptoliethra" (well-peopled cities), that Agamemnon offered Achilles to subdue his rage. Along with the rest of Messenia, the town gained its independence from the Spartans in 369 BC. During the 4th century BC, Methoni was elaborately fortified and continued to remain autonomous well into the Imperial Roman era, when it enjoyed the favour of some emperors. During the Byzantine years it continued to remain a remarkable harbour and one of the most important cities of the Peloponnese, seat of a bishopric.
Nowadays the walls of the fortress, even though in ruins, continue to be impressive. The castle of Methoni occupies the whole area of the cape and spreads towards the southwestern coast to the small islet that has also been fortified with an octagonal tower. The castle is protected by the sea on its three sides. A deep moat separates the castle from the land and communication was achieved by a wooden bridge. The Venetians built their fortress on the ancient battlements and repaired the bridge during both periods that they occupied the castle.
Following your guided tour, you will board your coach and join your ship, 30-minute drive.
